GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

Hmmm. Doing something like an HX stomp into a PA speaker actually seems super interesting.

Just be prepared for a large learning curve and an almost infinite series of choices.

I enjoyed it but it can be distracting. :man_shrugging:

I started looking a little bit, but it looks like good PA speakers are also expensive. All decisions on hold for now.

Not so bad really. You can get a pair of 1000W PA’s for around $800, or a single 700W PA for around $300. And these are Yamahas, other brands are cheaper.

Oh, on the Yamaha topic I’m two in a row on my second place instrument being a Yamaha recently.

$300 for a single PA seems more reasonable than what I saw at first glance. I still need to do some thinking about like a boss katana guitar amp vs something like a HX stomp. Or better studio monitors and run through my computer. It’s a great time to be messing with amplified instruments with all these good options!

Hey there,

I finally bought some gear! It’s been a year of buying picks and maybe an odd cable until now. I thought it might be interesting to have a Zoom pedal and I wanted to have an easier way to play and record at the same time.

The practice space now:

The signal chain

  1. Bass to Zoom B1X, 6.3mm
  2. Zoom B1X to a DI box, 6.3mm, which splits the signal and balances it
  3. a DI Box to DAI (Arturia Minifuse), XLR (not plugged in here)
  4. b DI Box to my amp, 6.3mm

The total cost of my gear is now ca. 1000€ or $1075, including my bass. Then you’d have to add the online courses, which would run up to ca. 500€.

I am, however, experiencing a weird case of GAS for a new bass: I know the RBX260 is now holding me back a little. Previously, I wasn’t able to feel how I am fighting it for balance and holding it up with my left hand. Now I do. So… it’s time for a bass sometime in the future.

Cheers,
Antonio

We chatted about these in the Wireless Devices thread but thought they could go here too!

So far I’ve only put the guitar system to the test and I can say without any musical knowledge or audio background, that these are great! No latency that I can determine. At all. As soon as I pluck, the sound comes out!
There is a tiny bit of hiss, but that’s likely because I didn’t really play with the knobs. It could probably be filtered out with tone adjustments.

They charge quickly and last a long time. I haven’t had to charge yet.
I hope to do a recording soon and I’ll test out the monitors as well.

The purpose of this was to disconnect myself from my computer during recordings.

If I may

And to be helpful

From the pic I can see that you have 2 bass bags in the back

You definitely need a new bass

Please help me

I need good reasons to buy new gear

Bought bass #1 as you need a 1st one

Bought bass #2 as I needed one in my vacation place

Bought bass #3 and as a reward for completing B2B

Can you please help me build a long list of good reasons to buy my next Amp / Bass / pedal

I have

  • B2B completion
  • new band with new genre
  • move from edrum to regular drums (good reason for a new amp)
  • bassniversary (1 /5/ 10)
  • turning x5 or x0 to (regular birthday not strong enough)

I want it?

The big problem is you are trying to reason with GAS. As Oscar Wilde said, the only way to beat temptation is to yield to it.

Because I don’t have…
a J / MM / JM / PJ etc bass
a blue one, a red one, etc etc
a 5/6/7/8 string
a Japanese / German / Fender / non-Fender / Gretsch / etc etc

The above can iterate into at least several 1,000 basses.
Feel free to follow same need states for pedals amps straps pics etc

You missed “I don’t have a 4 string”

  1. I want it
  2. I’m worth it
  3. I need it - for a particular song, for my mental health, for my back (if it’s light) etc etc etc
  4. ‘cos I collect them
  5. ‘cos I like the colour
  6. ‘cos I don’t have one of them
  7. ‘cos I need the endorphin hit
  8. Well, it’s a (insert brand), isn’t it?
  9. Well, I’m going to sell one, aren’t I? (Then don’t)

And the best reason?

  1. FFS, I don’t need a reason!

I’ve been gassing for a new amp for some time, I only have a Cort 40W right now. But after I bought the Zoom U-24 DAI, which also came with the Ableton Live Lite Daw, new amp is severely on the back burner. If I’m ever gonna be in a band, or the right offer comes up, I will get something decent, but for now, with my Zoom B1 four, I have so many options. Recording is fun, lots of sounds to play with. and with some decent headphones, I’m really in a world of my own making (Rob Halford©).

I found a seller on Sweetwater that’s local to me selling a Fender BXR 60. I can afford it no problem, but I like to budget my hobbies so I don’t spend a crapton all at once (and honestly, to draw out that newly bought ooo shiny feeling). I spent my money for this payday on B2B but I don’t have a real amp yet (headphone amp only). Looking for opinions on whether its a decent enough practice amp that I should jump at it or hold off another week and just go pick up a brand new Rumble? I’ll probably still be playing with headphones all the time if that matters but would really like to be able to adjust the EQ easier.
