I will probably paint it as the dowel absorbed the ink I used as a stain more than the maple did, but that’s all solid wood now and cut/sanded flush, and with a new screw the cover stays on just fine with the new hole I drilled.
Today was a little non standard maintenance for me. I had my BB300 on the bench doing the normal spring stuff (truss rod, action, intonation, clean and polish the body, oil the fretboard, tighten all the screws and nuts). One of my tuners is getting really stiff lately so I also tried to lubricate it with paraffin wax and I figured I’d shine up the frets and tuners while I was at it. I think the next time I need to change strings on this one, I’m going to pull the tuners and bridge off and run them all through my wife’s ultrasonic cleaner. I bet it’s never been done and there’s 40 years worth of grime built up in there.
Threw the new Gotohs on to the SBV-550 and took the chance to hit it with some linseed oil too.
These Res-o-lites are lighter than the Hipshot USA’s and feel much less cheap, despite the blades being metal plated plastic. I think they look nicer too - I like them much more.
I still can’t figure out what “too much” is.
During my fretless conversion, I soaked the fretboard with oil to remove the frets easier. THAT was too much.
So now I’m careful and rather use not enough…
