I’m not sure such a critter exists but has anyone ever come across a gig bag with a compartment for a board attached?

I haven’t come across such a thing. It seems quite difficult to even find gig bags that offer enough space to store a somewhat bigger binder.
If it’s a smaller pedalboard, some brands offer add-on storage either designed for it or that could fit a small pedalboard:

I came across those during my search. They seem to be the only option but that’s pretty much the size I’m looking for so it’ll probably work. Thanks

I think the problem with trying to put a pedalboard on a gig bag is that the pedal board is really heavy in relation to the instrument, and seems like a recipe for disaster to me

On its own in the bag is bad enough. I don’t put anything heavy in my bag the most is the iPad sometimes my MacBook.

I have the Gator Transit with the add-on.
The add-on is mainly for the guitar gigbag. The bungee attachment strap is too short for the bass gigbag and I had to replace it with a longer elastic band.
As the shoulder straps for the Gator gigbag are pretty low, too much weight in the accessory bag will make a nice pendulum effect when walking 
I could maybe toss my Boss multi effect and a DI in my gig bag. My pedalboard needs its own pelican case at this point, and I wouldnt be surprised if it was over the 35 lb limit for flying.
