La Bella 760FM’s. I just spent my phone call with my daughter finding them. Love these strings.
My go to’s are D’addario NYXL for my fretted basses, and La Bella Nylon Wrapped for my fretless. I currently have the Copper Nylons, and love them.
Best 2 go to strings for me are the Slinky and Fender 45s. Cheap, predictable and standard. That said, I play them all.
Hold my beer.
Don’t know that these are my favourite but they are going on my current project bass (thread pending)
I have various flats and tapes on all mine others, no rounds currently
I rarely hear Fender’s coming up at all.
Very interesting.
Fender strings are versions of D’Addarios. D’Addario makes them for Fender. They are fine.
There are a lot of mentions of Fender strings in the forum. But as has been said, Fender doesn’t make them.
D’Addario strings are good quality, won’t break the bank, and are readily available, no doubt. They’re well made and consistent. So Fender brand strings are as well, since D’A makes them. If you like their sound and feel, all is good.
I have DAD Chromes on right now and am pretty happy with them.
Might try their EXL170s at some point just to hear their roundwound sound.
As many of said, it’s convenient and comforting that they’re always available, most shops carry them, and are a overall great brand.
People who use Fender strings don’t care about forum discussions on which strings are the best… they’re busy playing ![]()
Would you say tonally they are the similar?
I’m wondering why someone would go with EXL vs NYXL or vice versa.
I used there string finder quiz (:P) and it recommended the EXLs for me.
Just curious really.
EXLs are standard D’A strings. NYXLs description claim they last longer between string changes. Personally, I found NYXLs to have a warmer tone than EXLs.
Yeah Mike is more or less on point here. They also seem to hold tuning better as well. They feel about the same and sound like a more rounded EXL. I like them both a lot.
I have recently become a big fan of La Bella Deep Talkin tapewounds. Back in the day I played GHS Boomers because that’s all I could afford. When I recently got a bass again finally I went searching for reviews of various flats, and I ran across a video comparing flats, half-rounds, and tapewounds, and the sound of the tapewounds was like just the right mix for me, so I ordered a set. And man oh man I like them. They’re so smooth, and the sound is deep but still has some punch. I may try another kind of strings in a few months (or years?) but I really like these.
Others have already said it, but your experience will vary. You’ll not really be able to tell a difference or find yourself liking ones that aren’t the popular choice.
