Just do it!!
I had a good bass day last week. It has been 14-15 years since my one true band broke up. I was co-singer/songwriter as well as their bassist before that since 1998. We were on TV/radio and did shows and the pub circuit in my homeland. And then, as they say, the rest is silence. Until I joined BassBuzz and reignited my love for bass and song-writing. Recently, I llistened to a cringe-fying, who-needs-a-click-track original I wrote and we recorded in the year 2000, including my pathetic attempts at bass chords, slap and punk singing. I could have just hit the Delete button, but instead, I decided to go into Logic Pro and re-write, re-arrange, and re-record it, playing most of the guitars and of course, re-recording the bass, on it. When it was done (minus vocals which have yet to be recorded), I was⦠happy. I listened to the very first recording and this one. They sound different entirely, sure, and for me, it was a very good thing. Yeah, I have grown up (musically), but there is still a large part of myself from 25 years ago that I can hear and feel in my latest version. And a big part of that good bass day is that, thanks to having been a part of BassBuzz, it gave me the confidence to not just play the bass, but to remember again that I enjoy playing music, and to be willing to express myself through music again. For that I will always be grateful. I would like to wish Sensei Josh and all my fellow BassBuzzers a very Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year ahead!
@marcbe45 Congratulations on finishing the course! Now that IS a Good Bass Day! ![]()
Now that is a great bass week. Congrats!
This was a crazy week, the fact that Christmas was mid week kind of threw me off.
Lotās of stuff going on. The acoustic duo I am apart of is gathering steam. We started this project last June, and now we are ready to start playing out. We have a gig this Saturday, playing at a local sports bar, it is a 4 hour gig. Itās officially our first gig (weāve already done some smaller shows), weāll be playing to friends and peers, plus whoever else is around. We are ready and it will be a blast.
January 1st, we will be playing out in the woods. Itās a new years day bash put on by a local biker gang. It will be wild, itās about as crazy as it getās. No cops, just partying. Lotās of partying.
Iāve been around bikers for most of my adult life. Thereās a lot of good and bad, how you react is very important. They show huge respect until you give them a reason not to. I work hard to make sure that never happens.
That being said, it will be huge fun. They love what we play.
I just found at that we have at least two more gigs this month, one of them in downtown Nashville.
I have decided to start to retire in 2026. Iāll be selling off equipment, as well as working on my cabin so that I can return my operation to home.
I will still build, just doing what I want to. I have other enterprises that are becoming more profitable, things that my wife and I are involved in. Iām reaching an age where I canāt ignore that time can be fleeting. I want to go out playing music. I am writing songs for the first time in years, my music partner is in his thirties and he is such a big part in this. I am so thankful for him.
FYI, Iām not going nowhere soon. Lol. I do have my funeral already planned. My wife has agreed to take my boat and load with as much of my wood stash as possible. We live near a favorite State park, with a lake where we love to fish.
The idea is to take the boat full of wood, throw me on top of it, then launch it lake Woodhaven. At that time, my (hopefully) intoxicated friends will fire flaming arrows. Yes, a Viking funeral. As for the State park, we feel it is better to ask forgiveness than permission.
Boy. That turned dark quickly. Bottom line is Iām not going anywhere.
In other news, this week brought on Christmas Smoke-a-thon 25.
I didnāt go crazy, my big smoker is dead. The side that has the firebox (which I have replaced a couple of times) is completely rusted out. It definitely cause issues this time. I will not use it again.
This year I did only one big rack of St, Louis spareribs, also for the first time ever, I smoked a pre cooked ham for my 98 year old Mum in law. That was interesting, but it came out pretty tasty. I also scored my personal favorite, a 5+ lb. rib roast. I wait all year to do one of these.
Starting out with the ribs and the roast, I smothered the ribs in my favorite rub. For the roast, I made a paste out of roasted garlic, worschester sauce and my sevret hot mustard recipe.
Once the smokers were up to temp, I added the meat. I also added the ham.
By the evening, the ribs finished first. for the first time, I added a glaze to the ribs, again honey, brown sugar and butter. They came out amazing.
The prime rib Rocked, it was late when everything was done, so we ended up having it for breakfast. Lol.
The ham came off last, having never smoked one, I was a little concerned on how it would turn out. Fortuneatly, it turned out to be delicious.
Merry Christmas/ Happy Hanukkah to all.
I love living in France, but I really miss my Yoder Smokers YS640. I sold it to the couple who bought my house in Flagstaff. Your ācue has me drooling. I keep trying to smell it through the display, but have to settle for the looks, which are amazing. Since itās a secret, I wonāt ask about the hot mustard sauce recipe. ![]()
Thereās a backstory to that porterhouse. When I first sat down, Iād forgotten the beer. I got up and went back to the kitchen fridge to get it. I heard a clank and turned around. My Chihuahua Peanut had jumped off the back of the easy chair onto the table and dragged the steak down onto my chair and then the floor under the table. I retrieved it quickly to keep it under the 5 second rule and ate it VERY slowly while Peanut stared at me enviously. ![]()
Awesome. One of the best things about being dead is the shit you can get away with ![]()
Nice work on the prime rib. My brother smokes one every year and they are truly epic - he goes all out and blows a couple hundred bucks on the roast, and does it right with hickory too. One of my favorite meals ever.
Today will be a good bass day ![]()
Xmas family drama behind us, I intend to do nothing but bass and turkey sandwiches today
. Happy Boxing Day everyone!
That sounds like GREAT fun!!!
Be sure to make pics and videos, so we can āparticipateāā¦
My experiences with biker parties always ended up in trouble and me being very happy that Iām never drunk and can run really fast (well, faster than most bikers) ![]()
LOL - me too ![]()
I want it exactly like this:
Points for the cheeky attempt though

I love this song!
One of the first I tried to learn to play on bass, but decided it was too hard for me at that point, and saved for later. Now I can remember the notes, but canāt play at the right tempo yet.
So nice you found a singer you like! It is hard to hear her in this video because all the instruments sound loud and are drowning the vocals, but I donāt have a clue about the technical side of things, having never played with other people myself.
Do you play other The Cure songs? What else do you play?
Wow, that was a great bass week indeed! ![]()
This was the funniest story Iāve heard the whole week!
You made my day!
It is the sort of thing one would expect from some other dog breeds, and I had no idea a Chihuahua could be so bold! He went for the kill, like a hungry little wolf! ![]()
Fun day at one of the local music shops here in Denver today. I got to play a Rick again (still donāt care for the feel, love the sound), I sat down with a Fender Telecaster (liked it alot but it didnāt make me leave the store with it), a PRS SE NF 53 (lovely guitar⦠hard to put back), a Schecter Ultracure VI (shocked they had it, didnāt like playing it and didnāt care a lot for the tone), a Schecter Stargazer (really liked this one more than I thought I would), and one of the new cheaper Bongos. I loved that Bongo. That thing was awesome to play. I want one now.
SEE? By far the best instrument to come out of MusicMan, IMO. And of course they look awesome.
I really donāt think baritones are a great choice if you already have a bass and a guitar. Sure, Robert Smith plays one, but heās a guitar player in a band with a top tier bass player ![]()
Update. I found out today that the news years day party is actually a new years eve party.
Even more fun!
Hickory is OK for cheddar cheese, but the neighbor turned me onto Oak for beef. Iāll never go back to anything else. Pork = Apple, Salmon = Alder, Cured Pork = Maple. Mixed is fine for chicken. Still trying to figure out what Cherry would be optimum for. You can keep Mesquite.
Apricot is pretty fantastic too.
Cherry is great for pork from my experience.
Big fan of hickory for beef here. Maybe not chicken.
Sakura (cherry blossom) wood is great for chicken.
