I am thinking of upgrading the stock tuners on this bass for some open style ones. Has anyone done this, if so which ones did you go with, and were you satisfied with the results.

I have not, but I also have a G2220 and was considering doing the same thing.
I recently bought a PRS Kestrel; it has Hipshot tuners that I like. Was considering getting a set but really haven’t put in the proper research yet.
Yes I was also thinking of the Hipshot however they are sort of expensive. There are two models of the Hipshot, the Licienced, I believe made in Korea, and the USA model that is reversible. The Licienced aren’t reversible, was just curious what anyone had done.

A commonly used replacement for G2220 tuners is the 3/8" Gotoh GB-7 or knock-off.
They are closed-back, modern style tuners, but they are solid, cost-effective solutions to the Junior Jet’s notoriously crappy stock tuners.
The G2220 I briefly owned wouldn’t stay in tune even if you bought it dinner first.
Hipshots are badass, either the licensed or, of course, the USA version, but you gotta pay for what you get. I’ve got USA Hipshots on two of my basses and they’re killer.
Gotohs get the job done for not a lot of dough.
Thank you for your information.

Gotoh makes excellent hardware. Potentially as good or better than Hipshot, depending on what you get. Gotoh is used on lots of midrange and higher instruments.
