Gretsch Junior Jet Controls Upgrade

It’s perfect for a guitar but not enough for a bass in my opinion, it sounds kinda “nasal”. 47nF is way more appropriate for the frequencies of a bass. If you need more brightness, I would say that you should increase the value of the pots first. The value of the volume pot matters too, because it changes the load of the pickup.

So you’re saying 500k pots and a 0.047uf capacitor?

Yeah agree, for bass my choice is the .047 as well.

Great job. You have inspired me to try it. One thing, I’ve never understood why to use audio tapers on a tone pot. I understand why on a volume control, but shouldn’t tone be linear for more precise “tuning?”

The real question is, your fuhrer is asking, if you can walk.

So I’ve learned that you can set up the 2 single coils that make up a single humbucker pickup in series or in parallel. Which did you go with?

Update. I tried the suggested upgrades and completely fugged it all up. Plugged my bass in and it was humming like a spaceship about to blast off. I am too embarrassed to share pics of what my soldering looked like. But it was fun. Anyway, does anyone have an extra original neck pickup for the Jr. Jet?
