GRS - Gear Regret Syndrome

I think I sometimes regret purchasing “potential”. I modify everything. EVERYTHING. All it needs is a tuner and new strings… well we might as well get lighter tuners. Full set. Strings are off. A new nut makes sense. Let’s level and crown the frets while we’re here. Didn’t plug it in before I took it apart but I’m sure some pickups are needed. And that bridge… gross. Need one that matches the tuners perfectly. Do I have any strap locks left? And the old split shaft knobs don’t fit the new CTS pots… needs tort. And now my 125 dollar find is 400+ and I got frustrated with one step of the process not going the way I wanted it to… and it’s sitting because I’m being passive aggressive with it. Trade for pedal? Ooh. I like this pedal. Now which board to put it on? None. They’re all full. How much is a board… the right board of course. Not too big. Not too small. Well, I have room…

At the risk of sounding pretentious… been there, done that.

Don’t think that I don’t have a Pop Vinyl “Tim the Enchanter” on my desk, though!

Ive regretted many purchases since I started bass in 2019. I’ve bought and sold dozens of basses, pedals, amps, etc. I even regretted selling one bass, and ended up buying another identical one (Yamaha BB735). Now I’m back down to 2 basses (soon to be 1), no amp and no pedals.
It’s been a roller coaster.

I find there’s nice focus in minimalism. Pick what you like and go deep instead of broad.

I regret selling my Peavey Milestone. That was a good bass, with split coil JJs.

I agree but I simply can’t do that. I’m weak, I love gear way too much.
