So as not to pollute the Bass Porn thread.
Very interesting:
FujiGen Boundary Iliad. Tele Custom style. Budget MIJ line; Compound radius fretboard (250-350mm), Gotoh tuners, U shape neck (hmm), basswood body. Has a coil split. 510 euro (!!!) new.
Ok these bear some investigation. Off to Ochanomizu it is
Well that was enlightening. Usually when I go to Meidai-dori it’s looking for something rare. But today it was Teles, and there are about 1.2 billion Telecasters in Ochanomizu. Tried a bunch.
Things I learned:
- I still don’t like the slab, much prefer countours. That narrows the market quite a bit.
- The Bacchus Global line is actually nice; however I am looking for MIJ.
- The FujiGen Iliads are fantastic guitars; beautiful, well made, and I just did not gel with them at all. The neck is a chunky U and it just was not for me.
- The exact guitar I do want is available from multiple vendors but none would meet Ikebe’s price, and were over $200 more.
- Ikebe does not have the color I want.
Oh well. Doesn’t have to be simple. I’ll go home and play my Revstar.
Could they order it for you?
Yep that’s the next step, I talked to them about it the other day. If I decide to pull the trigger anyway. But ordering through them would save me about $130 over the next cheapest option.
I’ve been looking at FGNs.
The J-Standard Iliad I tried was fantastic. Not for me, but awesome. A definite safe buy.
Eastman makes great stuff. That’s a nice (and very classic) looking LP.
That’s the Boundary, not the J-Standard. Still MIJ but more budget. Still would be a great buy.
Plus it’s a Tele Custom configuration, which (as long as the humbucker is good) is potentially where I will end up.The J-Standard is an original Tele S/S.
You know, for $165 new, these Bacchus Universe guitars are not bad. Yes, that’s real roasted maple. Made in Philippines.
LOL RIP Squier. This is what you should be priced at.
