I had some fun with Logic trying to re-orchestrate an old Christmas classic - I Believe in Father Christmas
Other than Greg Lake’s voice and the final piano bit, I added/played/programmed all the other stuff.
My apologies to Greg and all the best for the Holidays to all of you!
While I am no fan of Xmas … (never have been) … great work on that track
Did you do the mix as well? Everything was nicely placed … and nothing was too overbearing… again… great job
Thank you very much!
Yes, I did everything by myself - it was a fun project to get better using Logic for recording and mixing.
Not a big fan of Festivus myself either; incidentally, Greg Lake had initially intended this song as a criticism of the over-commercialisation of Christmas and also the childhood over-romanticization (if that’s a word…) of it, which never really was fulfilled.
I was getting that tone… prolly why I was able to get through it all LOL
Bravo @joergkutter, well done!
Nice work! For the synth, did you use Alchemy or something else?
Regardless, it came out great.
That was great @joergkutter beautiful tone. Which bass is this one?
One of the synth voices is indeed an Alchemy preset, but the main synth here is the Synthx V. I also use chimes from Analog Lab V and the tubular bells from the ES2 that (like Alchemy) comes with Logic. Finally, I use a free Spitfire Audio plug-in for the violas and trumpet.
Thanks @Al1885 - it’s my new Mayones Jabba 5 (really liking it and also need/want to play it a lot to get more familiar with it).
It’s soooo smooth,
I may save up in the next work season for a Mayones … either that or a Dingwall … I really like My Jackson… but I’d like something special
There is, of course, also F Bass in Canada! But, yes, I can vouch for the Mayones (and so can a few others in here). Still, such an instrument is a very personal choice, and looks, feel, and sound need to align before you want to put down a serious amount of cash.
I may go with Dingwall… as they are MUCH easier to get… there is only 1 shop in CANADA that sells Mayones … and its no where close to me. My local shop handles Dingwall … and I can get my hands on em before forking over the cash
I know it’s not in the league of the Dingwall’s or Mayones’ but this BB734a is so crazy under priced imo compared to what other manufacturers are charging. The fit and feel of the instrument are on par with the USA G&L L-2000 that I got to play.
I’ll look into that as well… I am severely limited since i left Calgary… big city life wasn’t for me any more… only so much stupid you can take. Smaller locale = thinner options
EDIT: As for gear this off-season… I’m already tapped out… with the GT1-B And that was only cuz I hung up my game controllers, and sold my PS4 and PS5… done with gaming now … LOL
My sister in law lives in Calgary. I’ve got a brother in law up in Sylvan Lake, my mother in law is up in Edmonton, and father in law is a farmer out in Sask.
Edit: Go Oilers!
You know why Red Deer was not allowed an NHL franchise?
because if Red Deer got an NHL team… Edmonton would want one
Back to something, uhm, more relevant - you should definitely check out F Bass as well (Canadian outfit, too):
https://fbass.com/
Their HQ is where my daughter is … Hamilton, ON
Nice. You did really well with that. There was a lot of subtle synth stuff in there so I wasn’t sure if you did it all with builtins or went a little farther.
Arturia’s is a nice emulation of the Synthex. I passed on it because I never really found a need for that Elka sound that I didn’t have covered with other synths, but it is undeniably nice and worked great here. Jean-Michel Jarre likes them a lot.
Orchestral instruments like the viola and trumpet are hard without going to sample libraries for good coverage. What you did here sounded fine for this. I was feeling this pain earlier myself, I had a distinct lack of orchestral instruments my instrument collection so earlier this year I splurged and bought Falcon + Orchestral Suite - and then have used it exactly 0 times
Overall I am really impressed, and super happy to see more examples of full song production here. Well done.
