I have never utilized tapping on bass like other channels have on Youtube. It was cool for about 10 mins., but now it is nearly in every bass video I see.
What do you think of tapping?
Love it?…..or can do without it?

It’s cool on some etudes / riffs but by far the vast majority of stuff does not use it. I for one very rarely ever attempt it. This is cool though:
Thank you, if this was TalkBass, I would of been suspended just for bringing up the subject without a license.
I put it in the same box as slapping…
Nice to know how, but absolutely no use for it ![]()
….good point.
Tapping has it’s uses. Eugene of Jinjer makes good use of it. So does Fami of Lovebites, but the real master of of it is Les Claypool, who will tap out a rhythm with his left hand while playing a melody
Fami is a fun one to watch, she taps, slaps, and does double thumb as part of her playing. Double thumb is where you slap on the downstroke, then pop with the thumb on the way back.
Here is Fami doing a lot of double thumb but some tapping. Notice when she taps she anchors her hand by resting her thumb on the top of the neck, which is good technique
I respect the skill involved but as a technique I’ve never liked it (either doing it myself or watching others do it).
It works much better on guitar of course, and makes more sense there.
Nothing has ever run its course, it may be getting more rare, but just like fashion, things seem to come around again.
