Thanks! Yeah, now that I know how to search, I was reading about the Nux in one of the other forum threads. Sounds like what I’m looking for. Bluetooth will be awesome. Also, I see the connector is on a hinge, so hopefully will plug into my stupid angled jack.
I also may ultimately get the Zoom B1 Four as well, as I see now it has a looper, which I don’t have yet. Also people on here love it so much, seems I can’t go wrong with it.
This is a misunderstanding of the term WiFi (i.e. it does not imply an access point), but whatever.
I don’t doubt it.
All I know is that the Waza works great without discernible latency of bass playing or external source playback track. Whatever voodoo that Boss do to create that result is a whatever I can gladly live with.
Can’t talk about headphones amp without mentioning Katana Go,
It also has drum patterns, super useful for practice and far more engaging than a metronome. If money is an issue, search for a second hand one, they can be picked up for very little.
While I have since upgraded from the Zoom unit, I still use it when I travel for work. It’s light, works, runs on batteries, sounds good, and given its low cost, wouldn’t be the end of the world if it got damaged.
Back to the Vox thing, really, don’t waste your money….
The Katana Go was discontinued shortly after its release - some chip shortage that they wouldn’t have been able to replace. From what I’ve seen (which the post linked below supports) they do expect to bring it back, but had to do some significant work to replace the part(s) that couldn’t be sourced. It’s a shame because it’s one of the more interesting headphone amps, I was ready to order one when they went out of stock everywhere suddenly and decided to hold off in case there were any support issues with the ones that did make it out.
It’s not WiFi either - it doesn’t use any IEEE 802.11 standard. It’s just a proprietary 2.4 GHz wireless protocol, which is a pretty common frequency range for consumer electronics (wifi, Bluetooth, RC planes, basically every non-Bluetooth “gaming” computer peripheral, and many others use it).
Wireless doesn’t inherently have latency, but the processing involved with digital protocols like Bluetooth can introduces it if it’s not built from the ground up to be low-latency - and Bluetooth specifically has features that keep the music going even if you lose connection to the phone or whatever momentarily, which are nice in many/most consumer applications, but fundamentally incompatible with low latency applications.
Yep thats an even better explanation.
I know. I got one it was good probably best headphone amp on the market then boom! No more. I placed 2 more orders from my GC rep luckily I got it.
I’m selling the Boss Katana Go currently (see SAG thread), but within Germany or EU … as shipping/tax would be too high otherwise!
I was VERY happy with it until I “met” the AMS-24. It’s a slightly different use case, but fits mine perfectly.
I use this in my setup.
I have IEM plugged into the NUX and they are tucked behind my head to get the cord out of the way.
The NuX is then Bluetooth connected to my phone.
I then play my backtracks via my phone to play in my ears along with my bass.
Latency is not an issue. The bass is direct to your ears, and I’ve never encountered any sync issues. Been using this setup for a couple years. It’s super easy. Barely an inconvenience.
I actually found the Vox ok as something to get me started, without really knowing about alternatives (and I have a bass with angled input) - but I’m no audiophile Having to keep replacing batteries was annoying though.
I use a zoom B1four now - as others have said, it’s useful to have effects, drum loops etc. And I can use a portable charger to power it.
I also used the Vox, and was able to plug it into my friend’s Ibanez, which has the angled jack. The aux port crapped out on the Vox, however, which was a lot of the reason I was using it, so I replaced it with a Sonicake one which will NOT work in an angled jack. It does what I need it to do for now, though. I’d like to upgrade to a Zoom or something at some point though when I get better.
And agree about the batteries @saroohoo !!
I love those videos.
For those who have the Zoom B1 Four, how does it work as a looper? Would I be better off getting one of the Boss loopers? More of a long term thing, but eventually I’ll want a looper of some kind.
I have the B1Four but I’ve never used the looper! It’s a great multi-tool! I don’t have the side pedal on mine. Integrated tuner as well.
This video may help you see how it’s used.
It works just fine, although I have no experience with other, “real” loopers. But it does the trick.
