I’ve realized I’ll likely practice my bass a lot more if I get a headphone amp. Sometimes I don’t practice because I don’t want to lug out my amp (it’s kept in a closet in another room).
I know @JoshFossgreen recommends the Vox amp, and it looks solid. However I was thinking I might want one with Bluetooth as the headphones I’ll use have Bluetooth. Would be really nice to not have to deal with the cord. However, I’ve read latency might be an issue here. Is that the case?
If not, is there a Bluetooth headphone amp you’d recommend?
Bluetooth to stream the song you want to play along with to the headphone amp is fine. Bluetooth to hear your bass playing has way too much latency to be a decent experience.
Oh man, looking at the Vox again, it may not work for me, as my bass has the angled input in the front. Looks like I may have a problem plugging the Vox into that. Anyone know if it will fit into that kind of input? Or maybe I can get some kind of 1/4" extender?
I’m also not sure if I would get the v3 Bass or v3 Modern Bass. Any thoughts on that?
I bought one a year ago, and very quickly sold it on. The sound quality was so awful that it was painful to listen to either the bass, or the backing track through. Don’t waste your money…
A cheap, but decent quality solution is a Zoom B1four. You can plug an aux cable in, you can plug earphones in, so you’re then set up for silent practice. Oh, the unit also has lots of effects to play with.
Roland/ Boss is one of the world leading when it comes to low latency Bluetooth signals. The are successfully done it on drums modules and that’s about the shortest latency available on the market now on mass produced products. I think it’s around 2 milliseconds and some change. That’s crazy. My Honda is about 2 seconds.
No. Their Bluetooth protocol uses 2.4 ghz to communicate both audio and midi Bluetooth on the ultra low latency. There’s no connecting any of their product to WiFi. I own Katana bass, pocket GT, katana air bass and guitar, boss dual cube lx, katana go, etc, none require WiFi connection, some require the boss BT dual dongle but all of the connections are through Bluetooth.
Hmm Vox doesn’t sound great. I guess I can try it and send it back if I don’t like it. I’ll have to do more research and check out the threads on it on this forum.
Problem with the pedal idea is it’s more than I want to spend on this, and I’m looking for something portable and easy to use without cables, other than the headphone cord.
Aha! I don’t have that for some reason. But knowing it’s there, I flipped to landscape mode, and there it is! Just doesn’t show up on portrait. That will make life so much easier! Thanks!
I got the Nux Mighty Plug 2 and I love it. It has Bluetooth so you can listen to songs on Spotify or whatever and play along. It also has tons of modelling so you can play around with different effects, etc.
