I want to build a simple, portable, setup for me and my son to play together through headphones.
I play bass and he plays guitar. I would like for each of us to be able to control how loud the mix is on our own headphones. Extra points if we can control the mix between instruments for each headphone out.
Would I be able to get an adapter for the stereo outs to go to a second set of headphones?
We wouldn’t be able to adjust the mix independently but we would be able adjust the overall level on each.
Is there a better way to do this?
Does the Yamaha sound any better than a Mackie or Behringer?
Note that the mixer you linked will not do this. It will only alter the per-channel levels
for the global mix (for either the headphones or the line outs). You can adjust the levels of the line out and headphone out separately though, as usual.
You can probably find a splitter for the headphone out, not sure how well it would work though, and it wouldn’t give you what you want.
Driving headphones from a line out is gonna be a pretty severe impedance mismatch. Your headphones will likely be 32, 64, or 250 ohms while the line out impedance is going to be expecting to send to more like 10k ohm input impedance. This may lead to the 'phones drawing a lot more current than the out is designed for and make them sound funky. Probably will not damage anything though.
Unlikely. Well, maybe better than the Behringer. The Yamaha and the Mackie should be the same, more or less.
How about the GoMixer Pro or the Joyo MoMix pro that would work too. It’s a good choice if you are also considering a video. It does require a smartphone to run it.
I like the Yamaha mixer they are not bad at all. I have a couple of the 8 channel and a 16 channel I bought a usb powered 6 channel (?) one for my daughter, she likes it.
It’s pretty awesome. Does everything I want. If there was a little brother version with half the in/outputs, that would be pretty cool. At $400 the price (and functionality) is way overkill for what I would use it for.
I was looking at these also, but I would still need a headphone splitter. If I ever make a cover video, I still want that Joyo MoMix Pro to make it with.
As for headphones splitter the one I saw is pretty neat as has 2 sizes jacks in all ports. In fact I just ordered that one, it would come in handy asi can set the bass recording level on my Zoom Q8N 4K and the desire Volume on this Splitter and don’t have to do any finger yoga every time I change the bass,
Yes, this would be a great solution. For me, it’s a bit expensive, considering it only solves the problem of giving me access to a second headphone connection. If I was going to spend this much, I would save until I had enough for the Zoom LiveTrak L-8 which would solve everything I want to do.
It’s here and it’s surprisingly tiny looks good and I definitely like the no adapter needed feature.
Oh yeah! Just testing with both IEM 3.5 and headphone 1/4”. The volume control definitely works. The Mono/ stereo is pretty cool. I gotta check that one out.
Great. Robust and clean. I can almost enjoy this with my 800s and and stick my nose up I’ve been listening to music and so far it’s a quality product. It’s pretty neutral it doesn’t have any pull one way or another which is always good in my book. It’s very quiet too. I’m impressed so far. I don’t thing it would be much different in term of sound quality than Mackie but this one has 2 connectors option on all of the channel.
No, that’s just my personal use. One of the band use the DM3 Dante and another band use the 24 channel Tascam Analog. Thank god I don’t have to deal with that. My Keyboard player has a pretty sophisticated IEM mixer thingy very cool some of the sequence songs there’s all kinds of count in and what not. I’d love to learn how to do all of that but seriously I’m settling to just successfully turn on the amp and make sounds,
Sometimes I get the FOH guy and they have some really cool stuffs and kick ass mix too.
