Help me! I don't know how to describe this bass technique

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some help to identify a type of bass line but I don’t know how to describe it. I’m new to bass and half way through the course but I would really like to know how a type of bass line is described and played.

The link here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4CbfdWl0vY is to a you tube of a 70’s song Galaxy of Love. at around 1:06 of the track the bass line is fantastic, it sounds like it just goes up and down the neck but I have no idea how. I think I have heard this type of bass line in Jamiroquai songs but not sure.

Thanks in advance if you can help.

Sounds like ascending octaves. Play the first base note, then the octave two frets higher and two strings higher. Then move your base note up a fret or two and do it again. And then repeat that whole process a couple more times.

Thanks @fennario, I didn’t have the knowledge to describe it. That really helps.

You are very welcome. Josh has lessons on playing octave patterns in the Bass Buzz BTB course, which of course I highly recommend!

I’m doing the course at the moment, I was just curious to know what this style was as it’s exactly the type of music I want to play.

Yup, disco is full of octaves.

Sadly, they are trickier than you think but so much fun when you get them down.
