Help me identify this Fender

And some like this which is why I thought the others looked weird :stuck_out_tongue:

But I digress…

That one looks really weird to me as the strings are not aligned with the pole pieces.

It’s the 5 strings that threw me off. I sure hope it’s not a partcaster. I do hope, this is a long shot finger crossed, that it’s neck through, lol. I think this is Mij.

before I found the other Ps I was thinking it was a modded bass or something XD this thing is harder to find than I thought. Maybe you’ll get lucky and it will come with the original hanging tag…

May be it’s one off, braapp! It looks kinda fun and wide. Anyways I have 45 days to figure out either how to flip it or return it, lol.

Not that it matter, but they advertised and insisted that this is a deluxe dimension.

Like @howard says the pole pieces don’t line up with the strings. In the splits and the single coil. That’s not normal.
Here’s a brand new Fender American Professional II Precision Bass V and the pole pieces line up.

More examples here of pole pieces lining up from different manufacturers.

I wonder if it’s a Heartfield Prophecy:

Yep. We went there but there’s no record of any 5 strings.

PJs for sure in the Prophecy line. Put no 5 strings.
Good news is this….

  1. It’s a super super rare 5 string version.
  2. It’s a partscaster someone tried to pawn off as one, and you can return it and probably recoup any shipping as it was listed as the wrong thing anyway.

Interested to see. The key might be whatever, if anything, is on the truss rod cover.

Some people are in love with the Prophecy - I don’t know why, so if it is, you should be able to flip it for a handsome profit on talkbass.

This is where Guitar Center really shines at bargains - when they have no idea what they have.

The picture of the OP kinda looks like a Frankenstein to me. I would trust the one you posted.
Does Fender have a public serial checker?

Not really a serial checker but kinda. You brought up a good point, i’’l look for signs of modification as in neck pockets and pickup cavities but again the 5 string neck is legit fender of some sort, maybe from the DR series. We’ll we’ll find out soon enough, it’s arriving this Friday. Stay tune.

Ok mystery solved. It’s a Dimension bass V.

z

Active pj noiseless pickups with bass/mid/treble boost and cut 18v power(not yet confirmed)
24 frets fingerboard
Gotoh tuners
Convertible bridge??? Don’t know what it does yet but I’ll find out.

Thanks everyone for playing, lol. We did learn something new about old stuffs today.

I guess GC was right then! So do you think it was a good deal?

This is definitely a difficult one. It’s a good value, and while this is not fender’s 2 octaves basses but there are not too many of them for sure. So far the pickups and preamp are rock solid, neck is very comfortable gotta work tomorrow but I’ll clean it up on Sunday and do the setup. I’m leaning toward keeping but we’ll see.

What do you think?

Second thought, it will be returning back to GC. The intonation was off do I was trying to sort it out there are smorgasbord of screws on this bridge, that’s the first for me, lol.

Oof. it’s like the back of my Belarusian monstrosity’s bass’ neck plate

I think a set of original replacement screws doesn’t cost more than a couple of dollars… Not worth it?

That’s really too bad. Its sad what people will do to a bass to move it along, when getting the proper parts really isn’t too hard. I wonder how messed up some of the threads in that bridge are messed because of that. At least you can return it.

I narrowly escaped another “I didn’t know” seller. I just bought another Warwick Thumb which was listed as excellent. Within 5 minutes of getting it I noticed the fretboard over hang was not flush with the body like my other Wicks. There was cardstock as a shim between the neck and body and the truss nut had been eaten up. I contacted him and he said he was shocked that it was in that condition. He said he only had it set up once when he first got it from the guitar chain in his area long ago and never noticed anything even though he had been a player with over 25 years experience. The lies never cease with these individuals.

Dimension bridges are easily gettable.
I wouldn’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.
