I’ve been kind of wondering if Paul might just outright buy them, being so closely associated with the Hofner bass and all.
If it weren’t for The Beatles nobody would be buying their basses ![]()
It is commonly referred to as the Beatle Bass after all
This is good for the value of my German but Hofner sadly.
I’ve played my Hofner “Club” quite a bit in one of the bands I’ve played with…. First time I pulled it out was for a Chris Stapleton Country song “Tennessee Whisky” at a local watering hole….. The band went wild with the tone and would not let me play “that” song along with several other Country songs unless I used “That Bass”….. Bottom line is the tone from that hollow body short scale Club Style Hofner was killer…. HOWEVER…. Playing Country music down here in the South, ALL (well most) Bass players kinda have to have Fenders hangin’ off their shoulders which is why I did not go down the “Violin” style “Beetle Bass” when I decided to add a Hofner to the crib….. At least with a “Club” style bass, I “sorta” fit in since it kinda resembles a Gibson guitar…. But the tone….. The tone from those hollow body short scale bass’s can melt lead in an ice burg….
What color is your C-2? Mine’s purple
Sunburst…
No offense to anyone that has a Hoffner bass, but I can’t get over the switch panel. I really want one and have come close to talking myself in to it a few times, but that rectangular panel just randomly sitting there drives me bananas. Just set them in the body and I’ll buy one.
I’m not offended, but they are strange, no question.
I waited for YEARS before buying a 500/1. I, too, couldn’t get on with that switch panel. Less than a minute after seeing a Green Line 500/1, I bought one. It’s awesome.
Oh no I can’t believe it
. I’ve had two Hofners (an Ignition and a Contemporary) and they’ve been some of my favourite basses: good build quality (especially for the price) beautiful tone and most importantly - individuality. Hofners may have many copies but they are still unique. It’s a sad day when a manufacturer like Hofner goes under and cheapo budget internet firms are raking in the cash.
I did not know those existed. THAT looks good!
