How can I get an electric bass to sound like a double bass using plugins?

Don’t know the guy, but somehow he hacked my system, installed his stuff, removed it again, broke my Kilohearts and kept me from using it in the park.

I hate him too .-)

I do love SSD5 though, solid drum samples

I’m not an expert - but the bass player does not use an upright bass for this song
But it sounds like it … magic?

It doesn’t particularly sound like an upright to me, but it’s a totally achievable sound on an electric bass that fills the same role.

Did you listen through good headphones or a good stereo. Via notebook speakers I also don’t hear that clearly…

Yeah. I can hear fret noise. Are you talking about getting the big transient drop off? I was surprised to look at the video and see a pick. I wonder if he was palm muting to get the fall off and then eq’d out all of the high end.

The band seems to play a upright bass live, so might well be that it is recorded with an upright bass, just for the video it is an electric bass.

As I understand it, the guys in the video aren’t even the guys from the band, but some kids that created a video for this song.

LMAO - you just gave me an idea for my next cover video

Here we are, @Whying_Dutchman, just go and buy one of these! It’s even from your favourite brand!!

Is it Reverend? Is it Offbeat? Oh, no … Harley Benton

I had a Kala Journeyman, which is similar - and loved it.

But my gf made me decide: it’e either her and a fretless shortscale or the Kala and fretless shortscale.

I chose to sell the Kala … cause: NO ADDITIONAL HARDWARE!!!

I submit this cover, let me know if this sounds like an upright. I think it comes close. I picked this song so the bass line hopefully is not lost in the mix. Comments welcomed.

Listened via great headphones, to make sure I don’t miss anything.
The first bass tone already got me! LOVE IT!
Did I tell you that I totally and absolutely envy you for the Dub King too?

What did you do exactly, except for playing with that great bass?

Many thanks Dutchman!

:joy: Many times.

Here is the signal chain as recorded:
Dub King
Cali 76 compressor
Zoom B1 Four w/ Upright Patch (obtained on the internet)
Rumble 100 (flat response on the knobs)
Scarlett 2i2 DAI
Reaper DAW w/ CLA 76 compressor, Summit Audio TLA-100A tube leveling amplifier, Magic 7 reverb.
Pluck the bass above the neck pickup on the neck. (I know the video doesn’t show that and I apologize. I record the audio first and then sync the video and I was in a hurry to get the video posted.)

I hope that helps.

Wow! That’s quite some stuff going on.
Do you have link for the patch? Maybe it’s human readable?

lol, another option which we have discussed but this dude put in action…

How to fix a weak bass guitar track? By using autotune to generate MIDI to drive a synthesizer, of course

Would also work for this thread’s topic, just use a different instrument.

Seriously, this is why I say everyone really in to DAW production should have a tool like melodyne. So damn useful. He’s using VariAudio in Cubase but same thing really. Logic Pro has this tool built in too.
