Please see attached photo. (The source of the sheet music if from Hal Leonard First 50 Songs) How are the areas marked up as 1 & 2 on the sheet music played, what do they mean and when do I play them in the song?
There should be a mark (on the page before), and usually you play from that sign to the cross-mark, skip the bars after it, and jump to 1.
The “no repeat” confuses me.
In the song, they don’t play the chorus twice, so it makes sense. Or, if the sign is before the verse, then it means both sections should be played twice?
And if there is a repeat in the verse (I don’t see any on the page here), then you should skip it the second time.
The bass also keeps the legato note playing just before the interlude, with no additional pluck, there is no need to introduce a “coda” just for that.
Maybe it’s just an extremely complicated way to change the text over the last bar
Yes, like @paolo.pfm also mentioned, there has to be a sign earlier in the sheet music, and that is where you jump back to after “you know I love you so”.
D.S. al coda stands “dal segno al coda” and means literally “from the sign to the tail (end)”
So:
Play it all as it is written from the start
Once you get to the end of the bar with “you know I love you so” jump back to where the sign is
play from there but skip any repeats that you may have played when playing that part the first time
once you get to the end of the bar with the word “dry” on top, go directly to the bar marked with “1” by you
continue playing until the end (or new instructions…)
