How to Play Feel Good Inc. on Bass (+ Bass Tab n Cover)

Here’s everything you need to know to nail Feel Good Inc. on bass. This tutorial will get you Murdoc approved in 5 stupidly simple steps.

If you’re doing the Beginner to Badass course, this lesson would fit right around Module 9… cuz that’s when you learn this riff anyway! (the full song is in your Song Pack too)

Here’s a full bass playthrough of Feel Good Inc. with playalong tab in the vid.

I am uniquely qualified to certify this Feel Good Inc. bass tab as 100% accurate because… I have a banana on my arm and gorillaz eat bananas. I think.

How do y’all feel about seeing more song tutorials on the BassBuzz Youtube channel? What should I hit next?

Thanks for posting this. I do have a question however. The notes I am seeing on the staff do not appear to match the notes being played by Josh on the play through. They do match in the lesson video however. The notes and tab say the bass is tuned EADG. I am hearing in the play through video (and in the original song) the tuning 1/2 step down starting on an Eb. Both UG and Songsterr have the bass tuning at Eb as well.

Do I have something wrong? Is my ear 1/2 step off? I was hoping to play along with this one (even though I am still on module 5), but 1/2 step off makes that really hard.

I would LOVE to see Cocaine by Clapton. It’s so simple yet catchy, I love blaring it on the radio when I drive.

I would also really love to see Crossfire by Stevie Ray Vaughn but I know that’s in the Course so I will wait until Christmas time when I get your B2B for myself😁

You’re right. He covers the tuning differences and how to switch back at around 12:40 (the start of the “final chapter”) in the first video.

Edit: The rest gags murdered me. That was a great way kick off my Saturday.

Ah, thanks. I didn’t watch that long since the 1/2 step offset was bugging me.

I seem to recall this song was one that i got to “good enough” when going through the course. Looking at it now it doesn’t look so difficult, but I’m also many months more experienced than i was back in module 9.

This was fun, thanks @JoshFossgreen

Oddly enough I gelled quicker with the single string version, the next note feels more natural to me that way. Using more of the neck is fun too.

Very suprised and impressed with myself that i have actually not fallen into the finger syncronization trap.

Didn’t feel right to me and I just prefered having “offset” plucking and fretting going on.

Hey @JoshFossgreen i love that you are doing this for all of us. This is really exciting a I thoroughly enjoyed this tutorial and breakdown of this song and also being able to follow you and the correct tablature that you have provided. This has definitely lured me back to enjoying music again with the bass. I hope you continue this as I feel this would definitely draw so many people. This was so much fun and has certainly help speed up my learning. Can’t express this enough! Thank you!

How about a tutorial on “I Will Survive” by Cake? Learning your technique for the 16ths in beat 4 of the riff (hammer-on followed by …?) for both LH and RH would be great. Those last two notes are always muffled when I play it, even slowly.

I understand these are a bit intermediate, but I’m currently trying to master and would love to see a full tutorial from our humble bass teacher  @JoshFossgreen

Metallica - Orion,

Tool - Schism,

Tool - The Pot,

RHCP - Dark Necessities,

RHCP - Higher Ground

…really any Metallica, Tool, or RHCP song

Great video. As far as the next, you need more Geddy Lee. Maybe YYZ , a challenging bass line with an odd time signature for the intro.

Thoroughly enjoyed Feel Good Inc - forgot what a great sounding bass line it is :star_struck:

I’d definitely be interested in similar tutorials for other bass lines. There’s so many options, but for starters how about:

  • Psycho Killer
  • Sunshine Of Your Love

Or for something a bit (#understatement ) more complicated:

  • Pump It Up
