Hypothetical Small Amp Guidance

Quick hypothetical (based on real life options…)
Been scouring second hand options, and:

£10 for a Peavey 10w 6.5" practice amp

Or…

£30 for an unbranded (well, Gear4Music own brand) 25w 8" amp

Answers on a postcard please.
(or something more instant, a decision needs to be made fairly quickly-ish)
I know neither are ideal but I’m very much capped by budget and storage space lately

Thanks in advance

def the 8" - not sure a 6.5" would feel like bass enough.

Yep I’m with @mgoldst. Set your expectations accordingly.

Go with the 8"

If space and budget is an issue I’d go with headphone bass amp, you’d get more satisfying bass tone the a midrangy guitar amp.

Go for the peavey and save your money for a good amp.

I would get a sweetwater card and get a waza air bass pay for it over a couple years of possible

Well for the price of the Waza air, there are quite a bit of great small size bass amps. That said Waza Air is definitely the best headphone amp money can buy. Roland’s super low latency really shine here.

    1. type or paste code here

160W through a pair of 5.5" with 1" tweeters does just fine

But yeah. No way will a 10W 6.5" be a good plan at any price. Even if they pay you a few to take it, because you’ll just have to junk it anyway.

@mikeyjayjay If capped on storage space, there are affordable options you can use with virtually any headphones. Also, helps to keep neighbors at bay.

I have a full amp, but still play far more with headphones.

Thanks for all the comments and feedback everyone. Much appreciated

In my haste I did miss a key detail in that a headphone amp would be unnecessary as I’ve got an acoustic bass guitar, so volume isn’t the issue, or rather the lack of sometimes is - I only need an amp for the extra smidge of volume for if recording something I’m playing (my phone struggles to pick it up at all unless I play too hard but that just makes it sound ropey) or if casually jamming with a guitarist in future.

Regards storage space, it’s more that for anything larger than the two listed amps I wouldn’t have anywhere to keep it (part of the reasoning for going acoustic to begin with).

If both are outright terrible options I’ll just go without and stay fully acoustic for now
