I am so grateful for this forum!

I just wanted to take a minute to express my gratitude for this forum. I’m so glad I found this place at the beginning of my bass journey. Everyone has always been so helpful and positive. Recently I joined the Bass Players group on Facebook… oh my good heaven. I’ve been a member there for two weeks and have been yelled at three times for supporting the idea of modding a Squier or even buying a sub $1000 instrument. This forum really is a special corner of the internet and I’m happy to be a part of it.

What makes this place special is that the vast majority of us started on bass through B2B. I think we, pretty much all, recognise that we are on a journey - some further along than others - and are happy to support each other in that journey. Having problems with Module x? Yep, we’ve been there and felt that pain. Having problems choosing a second bass? Yep, we’ve been there time and time, and time again  Nervous about posting your first cover and what people might say? Yep, we’ve been there! Starting to think about wanting to play with other musicians? Yep…

The point is that this forum isn’t about showboating. It’s genuinely about supporting each other

Welcome to one of the best places on the internet … but then you know that already, @Paul_9207!!

We don’t really shame people for what they buy. We only shame when they don’t buy. Nothing wrong with a modded squire by the way. Have fun!

Good googly moogly! Modifying a Squire? Buying a sub $1000 instrument? Do you even give a damn about your fingers, or the shame to your family name? @Paul_9207 Just when you thought you knew someone. I have to go lie down.

Sounds like you tick all the boxes for entry here.
But can you sustain a toan conversation?

Oh man it makes me wish I still had a fb account just to troll them with the mods I’ve done to my Ibanez fankenbass

But glad you’re here! This community has been great. Literally at a concert waiting for the headliner to go on wearing my BassBuzz shirt

Hey now, it’s not nice to call me out like that. What I do on BookFace stays on BF,

Amen to this brother.

I also love how we essentially run trollers out of town on a regular basis, and, how it takes about a day to ID them here. Mopes stick out like sore thumbs.

My second bass is a $1000+ model (though I got a deal and paid $666 :sign_of_the_horns:) and it made me feel anxious! I even bought a nice gig bag for it, despite never taking a bass outside of my house yet. Rather have it and not need it, y’know?

Gatekeeping music based on an instrument’s perceived value is nonsense. The music is inside the musician. Expensive basses don’t come with more or better music in them.

I really appreciate Josh’s decision to teach the whole B2B course on a Squier Jazz bass. You can get those brand new under $300, used for under $200! Even the Fender branded P and Jazz models are significantly under $1k, and a working musician could easily play one of those for their entire career.

Anyway, I totally agree with you! This place is one of the most friendly and supportive communities I’ve ever found on the internet. Occasionally to a fault - it can be difficult to get constructive criticism unless you beg for it. But that’s certainly better than the alternative.

This forum is essentially about enabling you to play bass, or just embark on a bass adventure. This is totally in line with the Spirit of Josh. Facebook is often about competing egos where people want to compete. This doesn’t really seem to exist here. I’m quite happy to admit that I have a huge amount of bass toys, but I still play like garbage compared to people who’ve put in the work in a shorter time period than I have.
Facebook is generally NOT a nice environment if you’re exposed to the public who want to argue their opinions are right or wrong.

I like the bass sound that never gets heard in the mix. Other people might like using that mids knob turned up.
I say I don’t like it and then listen to Telula for hours, but hey, I also put Fishman Fluence pickups in a five string Mikro Bass.
People are pretty supportive of your bass journey here.

My life really improved since I quit Facebook, and that’s all I got to say about that.

This is the reason I don’t do social media,
The good bass playing folks on this forum I’ve found have been nothing but kind, informative and helpful.
As with other things in life I get the best my budget allows.
The most important thing is that you enjoy playing
