Something different?

sure, no doubt.
Probably made the right choice. I’ve had a few issues with brand new stuff failing out of the box, warranty was a hassle. Can’t say I would have made a different choice.
Replacing my GB4 is what led me to the Streams, so it all works out, but sucks in the short run
This is cool!
So this is interesting (and surprising)… I can sing while strumming the guitar! That’s a big no no with the bass though
@terb you’re a good person to ask - I’m looking at double humbuckers that aren’t Les Pauls, in the 300-400 euro range used. Any cool suggestions? So far I have looked at PRS SE’s, Yamaha Revstars, Cort M600, and few Schecters and Ibanez. There’s a few interesting ESP Edwards but no LTD here so Edwards is it in that price range.
I could also consider a P90 at the neck if the bridge is a humbucker - something like Pacifica 600 series. But prefer HH and don’t want regular single coils.
I considered something like a HH Telecaster or Jazzmaster but the real Fenders are spendy for what you get and I would be looking at a pickup upgrade, and the Squiers in that range are blown away by the other choices. Telecaster is tempting though.
damn the MIJ Modern Telecasters are gorgeous…
The problem with these MIJ’s are they run over $1k, even used.
Squier have made some cool offset guitars in a HH configuration over the years.

The Sire range is also really good for the price point.
Hmm Sire is an interesting choice.
Oh man, those Sire Teles look nice! Especially the natural.
Yeah indeed, nice features too - rolled edges, etc
Edit: welp, out of luck there - no T7’s in Japan. Sire Japan doesn’t sell them here, none found used either.
Ran by Ikebe again but their selection is seriously high end. Time to just head to Ochanomizu. Guitar Heaven, lol.
Edit: it was as good as usual. Got to try a PRS SE Custom (fantastic), RevStar 420 (very good), Squier ‘70s Tele HH (so-so), and an Epiphone Les Paul (no).
Fit and finish on the Squier was better than I expected but way worse than the Yamaha or PRS. The Les Paul immediately reminded me why I don’t like them, and fit and finish was bad, managing to have fretsprout noticeable through a binding.
The PRS was amazing in every way.
The Yamaha exceeded my expectations. Felt great - not PRS great but same ballpark. Fit and finish, same story, really good. Sounded good.
So, now I can feel safe with either a PRS SE, RevStar, or Pacifica.
I played a RevStar once and really liked it. Hard to beat Yamaha for the price / fit and finish.
I also love the look of the PRS Mira SE

hey @howard , there are a ton of options here. I’m not a big fan of PRS and I also would avoid Schecter. Yamaha and Ibanez are good guitars, no suprise. I would prefer a Gibson SG -like design, rather than a Les Paul. the SG is way more comfortable. also I’m not a big fan of the tone-o-matic bridges, which is kinda strange to setup.
a Fender-like guitar with humbuckers sounds different than a Gibson-like guitar, even with the exact same pickups. the woods and set neck brings the Fender-like guitars more attack and more brightness, where a Gibson-like is more mellow and more focused on a warm midrange character.
also a humbucker with a P90 is not common but it’s something I personnally like (I have 2 guitars with this configuration, including Juliette, my #1 Telecaster).
Maybe a Charvel or a Chapman could fit to what you want. a “superstrat” always works and is probably the best of both worlds.
Thanks! Cool, I was just looking at a nice '90s Charvel.
Any specific reason you don’t like PRS (besides the cost?) Less versatility and more rounded sounding than a strat for sure I guess.
Yeah, the reason I don’t like Les Pauls is simply because they don’t feel good to me. At all. Especially when sitting. They are the least ergonomic guitar I have tried with that kind of popularity. I don’t get why people love them so much.
Schecters look hit or miss for quality, yeah. And they are too cutesey-metal, like “look, we are SO metal. let us show you!”
Agree about humbucker/P90 - seems rare but I really like it on the Pacificas. Sounds great, interesting combo and versatile. Would be funny to get another Pacifica but the 600 series is pretty nice. Some excellent hardware for a $500 guitar - Seymour Duncan pickups, Grover tuners, etc.
I liked it more than I expected. Cute funky styling, felt really good. Sounded great. Yamaha stock pickups are really pretty good.
Only bummer (with all of the guitars I tried today, actually) - gloss necks. Oh well.
In my experience Schecter has always been top quality. They are popular for metal because of the pickups and fast necks. I had a Fender strat and tele but my Schecter C-1 fits me best. Probably because I like high-gain on a guitar
If I had to pick something that is good for any genre I would go for a Charvel. I heard the necks are amazing and they look cool imo.
I know you’re not in the market for a Semi Hollow. However just look at what Sire are making at that price point. Just beautiful. Sire own their own factory so it’s pretty smart of them. No third party outsourcing. Plus Danish Pete can make a broom and piece of string sound good.
