I have to give it to you @howard, barre chords are infernal!
The wood on that looks way more expensive than you said you paid man.
It’s crazy. It’s like they require ten times the finger strength of bass, but only on one finger
Some good news though, triads are easy and can be played using three shapes all over the neck - as long as you stick to three strings. And I’m sure there’s other tricks like that, that’s just as far as I have gotten.
I’m super slow at chord changes though, need to work on my speed. Justin has a couple good exercises for that.
And just because of a string! While resting the finger, I feel I get all the strings except one (from memory, probably the one below the phalange), and to get that one I need to go Hulk mode to get it right
Changing chords is also challenging depending on the chords. With simpler ones I’m surprisingly quick. I definitely need a dedicated workout for that
This works pretty well as long as you actually do it. I took a break and am feeling it
Yes I was surprised it’s all solid woods and handcrafted.
- Neck Material: Mahogany
- Fingerboard & Bridge: Ebony
- Body Top: Solid Sitka Spruce
- Body Back/Sides: Solid Ovangkol
Also, starting this year, it now comes with a new finish called “Truetone” developed and used by Bourgeois guitars.
@howard & @gcancella, I’ve been following the practice workouts by Justin Guitar and I’m happy with the process. Chord changes and strumming are coming along, but I’m passed finger pain so I do it for a lot longer than his prescribed times.
just for fun … this is a demo video I recorded a few years ago, to demonstrate a Traynor reverb unit I modified for guitar with a custom FET preamp (that I designed and built) for one of my best friend. this video was shot with a smartphone at t he time, it’s very unformal and I show this only for fun. The guitar is my only non-MIA Fender … (MIM Cabronita)
Looks and sounds great
Really cool reverb on the preamp.
So many chord shapes and positions to learn.
Yeah Justin’s site is great. Really eases you in to things nicely.
How are your fingertips?
Also cool demo @terb ! Really impressive that you can build stuff like that…
Not so bad! Kept the callouses even if I lost what little speed I had
Playing a guitar like a tiny bass through an orange amp sim and throwing in power chords is really easy and sounds pretty awesome.
Amp sim preset was called Thunder Drive, which was more or less the perfect name
First few days were awful to the point I was so sore I couldn’t even play bass! But, thankfully, I got used to it pretty quickly.
Noticing that effect again, practicing guitar improves my bass playing.
@howard now that you’re playing more guitar do you you find yourself turning up late for band practice and not wanting to help move gear?
yeah but the ladies make it worth it
I always thought those cheap plastic pins should be banned, they are so junky.
agree. I did that on my two acoustic guitars (early 2000’s Larrivée OM-03 , end of the 70’s Fender F-65) and it is a real upgrade on both.
