I betrayed Bass and bought a Guitar!

This is my other strat. It’s a Fernandes the Function which is a made in Japan replica of a Fender stratocaster. I traded my modern Schecter for this one. @terb advised me on this haha.

This thing is kinda a Frankenstein. From the seller: top end model for 89 with see though white ash body Ebony board on one piece maple neck, German OFR, Gotohs, Custom shop single coil pickups with a Carvin rails humbucker activated by a mini toggle with a Gilmore mod switch which activates the neck in any combination.

Fernandes sells really good guitars.

Yeah it has a history of great players. I read somewhere that Kurt Cobain used to play this model too.

Hey, some modern Telecasters have contours on the back side? I had no idea, all the ones I have tried were planks. @terb - is this just some models?

If you Google Fender telecasters with belly cuts / tummy cuts there are various threads answering this question.

Current Fender American Ultra

Current Fender American Professional II deluxe

Older models as well - Fender American Standard Teles 2012 -2016

You can also find it in the Deluxe Squier Tele range

it’s quite rare but it exists, on some higher range instruments like the Ultra.

Pretty nice tbh. Not sure if it makes any difference

I think it would. Now I want to try one

Which acoustic guitar is in this photo you posted?

Those Fender ultras are super nice when I played them in the store. I also love the white stripe on the front facing. Just a tad to expensive, that Squier looks like a nice deal.

You looking for single coil or humbucker teles?

I’m not exactly looking

But if I were I would be hooking for a HH.

I am actually loving the Revstar and am considering upgrading it to the Revstar Standard later if I stay interested in guitar. I have a bad past track record there though so the Element was definitely the way to go, no regrets with the purchase.

I think that a Revstar is a more rational approach to a HH guitar than a Tele will ever be. except if, like me, you’re a Tele player for decades, and then there is the Tele Deluxe. but still a kinda weird instrument.

If I were new to that and I wanted a HH, I would probably go for a SG … yes, I know …

SG’s look nice but there’s just no way I would roll those dice, compared to the alternatives.

If I were ever to go Gibson, it would be an SG though. Les Pauls annoy me, their shape just does not work with me. Plus SG’s look better (ducking and hiding from the LP mob  )

There’s also PRS. My Cort kind of put me off that body shape though. That said, the Standard did feel nice to me in the store, nicer than my Cort clone did.

Another good option would be a H/P90 combo or a H/S/H Strat or SuperStrat. High end Pacifica or a Fender or the like. Bonus there would be Strat scale.

Teles sure look nice though. What would be the reason you wouldn’t choose a deluxe? Kind of muddy?

I am really liking it, yeah. It’s like a well-made SG that looks more modern

to be honest, I’ve never played a PRS that I’ve liked … and some friends of mine have high grades ones. but no, it’s very “cold” and impersonnal to me. Also I don’t like the shape at all, and I hate those AAAAA+++ high grade ultra flame maple :face_vomiting:

great combo

oh no, I like the Deluxe ! I was just saying that if you look for a HH guitar, the Tele Deluxe is a kinda weird choice.

well, it can be the choice for a Tele player, but except from that I guess everyone will choose another HH guitar.

yeah, that’s it

Any of the Revstars I’ve played have played well but are so much heavier than either of my SG’s. I’d have a hard time not getting an SG. Again. Happy camper here. Even the cheap Epiphone SG Jr. with the bolt on neck. Quite light and glad it’s there when I need that sort of thing. Of course I changed every part but the body and neck but… it plays almost as good as my Gibson now.

Really? Wow, how light is your SG? My Revstar is 3.4kg (7.5 lbs).

I do think the SG is the best looking guitar Gibson ever made though. Especially with good see-through grain.

My Gibson is right there. 7.5 pounds. All the revstars I’ve tried around here have felt like Les Pauls. Maybe my perspective is skewed by that. I haven’t weighed the Jr. actually playing it out tonight after work. I’ll have to weigh it when I get home.

I picked up this 2001 Deluxe strat last month and it’s been a real pleasure to play. Originally, the aesthetics called to me (as they do) but this one also plays wonderfully. The teal with the wood grain is just fantastic.

Nice Strat!

The previous Revstar models were a little heavier, yeah (though in the 8-9lbs range, not way up in the Les Paul boat anchor territory). The new Elements are about 7.5 like mine, and the Standards/Pros are 8-8.5 due to the maple top.
