That’s great you’re having fun with your new stuff!
I’m watching YT videos to try and reinforce the idea that I don’t want to do that much work on anything I’m not getting paid money to do I have way more than enough other things that I need to do that I’m already not doing.
I need to sit down and start composing stuff again, I haven’t done any of that since about March or April when the weather started getting nicer.
That would actually be fun at work to get a bunch of people together and make some music on it. As long as i don’t have to pay… Maybe I can expense it as a “team building” exercise
OK, maybe I’ll go play with my Superego+ or some of the many plugins I own and haven’t tried yet
My Spector’s on delay again, so I did the worst thing you can possibly do when that happens and went on Sweetwater.
I informed my salesman I needed one of those things that looked like basses but they had six strings and you didn’t have to plug them in but you also could if you wanted to and I think they’re called… chairs…?
He informed me they’re called acoustic guitars (who knew?), and if I wanted one that plugged in, I would need an acoustic/electric chair, I mean, guitar. I told him that made sense and after a few suggestions, I settled on this fine creature:
It’s a Washburn Nuno Bettencourt signature. Fishman preamp too, which is a nice touch. Inexplicable D’Addario strings, but okay. I don’t tend to like big-body dreadnought guitars, so this’ll be a nice change of pace and quite different from the other acoustics in our collection.
All I need is some cases for my basses. So I was browsing Musician’s Friend, and noticed that they had 48 months financing on ESP which means the Stream with the burled top could be mine.
Like I need it.
So I looked for used, and saw a deal for a white MIJ stream for less money. And this is an ESP, not LTD.
I second Justin Sandercoe! This guy is a highly experienced guitar teacher and I am currently also working with his beginners course (the app version).
Another guy you might want to check out on Youtube is Paul Davids (probably a bit more advanced) and Tomo Fujita as well as Rick Beato.
So I’ve been at it for 3 weeks now. I’ve been doing Justin Guitar., just finished grade 1, module 5. I’m starting to get some mean calluses. Haven’t touched the bass at all which is a bit alarming.
Congratulations. You are quick! It took me 6-7 weeks to get through grade 1.
Grade 2 gets more interesting: Scales and powerchords
P.S. On the calluses: Try pressing the strings a bit lighter. If I remember correctly, there is even a lesson in grade 1 where you practice to press a string lighter and lighter and lighter until it starts to buzz. Then you slightly increase pressure until it starts to sound clean again. This way you learn how little force you actually need to fret notes or chords.
Sideeffect: Your fretting hand becomes much more relaxed which makes chord changes much easier and precise and also helps with playing single-notes or scales. This can also be applied to playing bass. So, your time practicing guitar is not completely wasted.
This happened to me too. And then I was surprised that when I came back to bass I was better. It turns out, guitar requires a lot more finger dexterity, so you’re working all the right muscles there. It will actually make your bass playing better.
