I bought three new basses in 35 days!

Three basses in 35 days! I know that sounds ridiculous, but I swear, I’m good now. No, really!

First one was a cheapo starter bass, a Donner DPB-510S that I picked up off of Amazon. I wasn’t sure I could do this, or that I would dig it, so I wanted easy returns.

31 days with the Donner and the BassBuzz course convinced me that I’m IN, and I returned the Donner 2 days before the full refund window closed.

On the same day, I bought a Yamaha TRBX304 in Candy Apple Red from Chuck Levin’s, right near my place. A beautiful piece! It plays like a dream, so much nicer than the Donner, I knew I made the right call. The TRBX304 lasted 4 days, since last Thursday actually when I posted about it here.

By Saturday, I had done more research on the TRBX series, and I started to regret not going bigger. The 500 and 600 models come with all upgraded electronics, a 3 way tuner, and a passive/active switch. I come from collecting pinball machines, where the pro (cheapest) models cost $7k, so the thought of a few extra hundy for the perfect bass (for me) made sense.

This morning I went back over to Chuck Levin’s, and they did me right! I turned in the 304, and left with this stunning TRBX604FM in Dark Red Burst. No restocking fee, no shenanigans, every dollar I spent on the 304 went towards the 604. I’m SUPER happy with this one!

All right, I’m off to practice on this bad boy. I’m just some schmoe learning how to play, so I don’t need more than one bass. I’m done with GAS! Until I decide to buy my first pedal I guess…

It’s all good with me…
Bass is best no matter how many strings.
I thought it was cute and even had it laminated.
Non- musicians often really get a kick out of it
It’s on my wall in the studio… :pbass: :clef:

i really want to see this place someday. they’re a huge spector dealer and get a ton of custom made spectors done for them, and all of them are bill gates money. in chicago we have chicago music exchange which is a fairly legendary music store, so we’re pretty lucky. but levin’s looks amazing.

Nice! I want to see pictures of your collection.

So after 35 days you only own one bass?

I’d be interested to hear now the Dingwall and Ibanez compare @Morkai. Both are beautiful basses!

It’s weird, I’m completely over GAS. I look occasionally for a good deal on a used bass on FB but something like effects and cabs are not even on my radar. I’ve gotten to the point of treating it like ice cream; why have 100 flavors if you cannot get vanilla right. Meaning until I can say this will make me a better bass player, i dont need it. I’m having enough challenge managing what I’m playing right now.

It was definitely good for my first bass, when I didn’t know if I would continue and didn’t want to spend a lot. Good value for the price for sure! But I was ready to commit to something more.
