I bought a blended two band active preamp for my jazz bass. I half way decided to install it in my generic fretless P bass. Instead of blending two different pickups. I’d blending the two coils of my p bass. What do y’all good folks of BassBuzz think about doing that. I’ve been thinking about this other mod for a very long time now. I’ve been thinking about installing an onboard effects circuit. I even routed out the body to get the battery and the preamp module to fit under the pickguard. I’ll upload pictures as soon as possible.
P.S. Any constructive criticism and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank y’all in advance
The coils cover different strings so what would be your goal of blending them? The first coil is the E and A string, the second coil is the D and G string. Blending doesn’t make much sense to me as it would be like a second volume for half of the strings - what are you going for with it?
Exactly… this is actually the second time I tried to add a blend pot to actually to the same bass. I completely forgot all about that winning the two coils are the same pickup together. Until I was testing her to make sure everything’s going to work before I put it all back together. And I turn the blind part yeah okay, I understand now and I already have it all wired up though I just need to replace the blend pot. Would it be possible to install distortion circuit using bat41 diodes?
I tried installing a distortion circuit in either one of my basses or one of the guitars I was working on. When I had it hooked up just like it says the wiring diagram I found on Google. I didn’t hear no difference in some. So this time I’m thinking about actually making the distortion circuit active and then see what the hell’s go for now. But honestly I don’t I’ll figure something out eventually. And like I said Howard I’m going to be uploading pictures very shortly I still got a bunch of stuff to do before I go in there anything about doing that bass.
I bought a blended two band active preamp from Temu. To install in my jazz bass. Well my fretless is a generic P bass. I was thinking about installing the two band active free amp into my P Bass. I had to cut the coils apart had a little bit of water and it didn’t dawn on me. Till I plugged it in and was testing it out. Making sure everything’s all good. Before I put it all together. That is when it dawned on me I already have tried to wire a blend pot up to that bass. So I’ve been thinking for a long time now. On installing a distortion circuit or some kind of effects switch in my stuff. I keep looking online trying to find one that’s active. Because I try to be forward that was passive. It wasn’t enough anything to get any type of distortion out of it I even bought right on dialysis the bat41 diodes and all that. All I got Tonight to think about it because I doubt very seriously if I won’t even messing with their base tonight hey sorry do you work 9:00 I haven’t much of any last night. So I’m going to think about it. Get rid of the blend pot and I’ll probably just add another pot and see what it sounds like without that with the active preamp. Since I already have it all wired up except for the blind pot. I was rushing trying to get done. So I can be ready to go. By the time my buddy come pick me up for New Year’s Eve. When I got a little bit too much solder on it bottom center lugs. Or one of them or one of the two center lugs.
If you had this p-bass I just got to split coil pickup. Plus two more holes for the potentiometers. So you have a total of four holes in the pickguard. How would you go about wiring it up and filling them other two holes in? I’m just asking your opinion about it. Did you tell me you do this or do that doesn’t mean that I’m going to do this to do that I’m just trying to get some ideas in my head well let me know what you think man I truly appreciate it!
I decided against using the blended 3 band active preamp. If I do decide to use my blended 3 band active preamp. I’ll be installing it into a bass with two pickups. I did decide to use this G&L PTB circuit. Plus I followed this onboard distortion switch. I hope that it will work out perfectly.
Would anyone have any ideas why this setup will not work. I have a B1M with a 4.7uF Capacitor for the bass cut. A 250K Push/Pull with a .47uF Capacitor. With a diy black ice onboard distortion switch. Plus a 103M ceramic Capacitor with a 1 Meg resistor. For the treble bleed circuit. I’ll be uploading pictures here really soon.
My pickguard is done completely. No I just need to wire all this back together and get it back in a body. Then check and make sure she’s going to play.
I combined the G&L PTB circuit and used two bat41 diodes. Connected to the one side of my 250K push pull potentiometer. Along with a 4.7uF capacitor for the treble cut, I also used a 100K potentiometer for the volume, and a 1meg bass cut potentiometer. With a 220uF capacitor for the bass cut.
I don’t have no pictures at the moment. But, I will hear in a little while. Had to pull the router out, and right out some more to body. To get the full size B1 Meg potentiometer to fit. I’m about ready to go finish up on it. I’m not exactly sure if I should plug her in or not. It is midnight, and live on the second floor of an apartment building. So therefore I got people above me and people below me. That I need to worry about. If I don’t get a chance to plug it in tonight and check her out. I will definitely do it tomorrow and give you a front row seats of my fretless generic P bass. I’m just hoping that she’s going to play the way she should. Even though she looks good on paper. Doesn’t mean that she’s going to play good in real life. Anyway that’s the update on my generic fretless P bass. Then once I’m done with this one. I’m debating if I want to finish up on my jazz bass. Or get my T-40 back in playable stage condition. All while looking sexy as hell! But, I need a whole lot of practice. With applying the polyurethane AKA finish. I wish I had the money so I could buy me some SC Johnson’s floor wax. Oh well it is what it is, and gather the rest of my clothes and get my laundry finished. Then finish up on the fretless bass. So I can get to bed before 5:00.
