I was giving a 1979 Peavey T-40!

My T-40 needed a full restore. So that’s what I’ve been doing. I have everything together ready to go back together. All I need to do is refinish the body. What is the finish to use on my T-40? I’ve read in a Peavey forum, That Chip Todd the designer of the T-60 and the T-40. Recommended to use Johnson paste wax (floor wax) to refinish my T-40. Here’s a couple of pictures of my T-40. Thé first picture is after the sanding. The second one is the way I received her.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t have any recommendations but that is a beautiful bass!

Thank you… I wish I didn’t have to sell her. I would love to keep her. Especially after everything that I’ve learned about the Peavey T-40 basses. I want to open up a pickup. Just to see how it is wound. Again thank you!

I too love T-40s (and T-20s and T-45s!). I ha know idea about using Johnson’s paste wax. On a side note, they’re no longer making the stuff and pruices for it are insane.

Here’s a brand new 16oz can on Amazon for $199!

I still have the can my Dad used, plus I scored a can that was almost full for a whole lot less than what Amazon wants.

It is amazing stuff. I use it on the back of necks.

Wait, seriously? Did the price of wax go up or something? (I would actually believe this for a few reasons).

No, it’s only S.C. Johnson, they no longer offer their paste wax.

In all honesty, I’m pretty sure that Minwax offers a paste wax that is probably just a good as S.C Johnson’s. Then again, old habits die hard. I’ve used this stuff on metal surfaces for years.

Yeah just checked and other brands are still reasonable.

Wait you say the full can of paste wax in my garage is worth $200!?

I know I’ve checked it out, I’ve also read about using minwax. Using natural beeswax will it give the same finish as the paste wax?

Only if you find someone willing to pay that much…

I have no idea. I’m sure it would be close.

I admit that I am a S.C. Johnson paste wax snob. I love the stuff, though not enough to fork over $200 for a can of the stuff.

Get a can of renaissance wax it’s just about the same as Johnson’s or some Odies Oil furniture butter…super easy to apply and non toxic. Check those out, much cheaper than the top shelf Johnson’s now that it’s extinct. Best of luck looks awesome so far!

Exactly my thoughts!

I’ll be looking for them.

This is completely untrue. The man is trying to hold you down with an interior product!

On a completely unrelated topic I’m taking bids for my unopened tin of S.C. Johnson paste wax, the good stuff they’re trying to keep away from you!
