In memoriam

As the loving father of 3 daughter’s, who I raised from infant thru teen, to adult, I could Never normalize it, let alone accept it.

I do recognize this thread however as a place to post Musicians who have passed.

That said, any controversy about said musician should be open for discussion as well.

And
Let’s all just get along

And
I believe we are…mostly

In a world where ‘getting along’ somehow has been warped into ‘don’t have a different view’, being able to state your view alongside someone else’s is actually still getting along, albeit something that we don’t have enough of in the world at the moment.
It goes sideways when folks start commenting on posters vs. topics, which, is what the FAQ for the forum actually states as well:

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s totally welcome, but remember to criticize ideas, not people . Please avoid:

** Name-calling*
** Ad hominem attacks*
** Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content*
** Knee-jerk contradiction*

Instead, provide thoughtful counter-arguments that improve the conversation. Remember that there’s a real person on the other side of every screen.

Which, was what my post’s intent was meant to convey, before I was criticized as well.
The point and spirit of the “Be Cool” section above, is that folks can disagree, but you don’t go after the person.

As do I

I don’t believe this, there is a difference between offering an opposing point of view and bashing somebody in a post.

There are classy ways to get your meaning across, and nasty ways.

For the most part, Classy is the way of our forum, at times it starts to get nasty, and this is what we all want to avoid, or at least what I would like to see avoided, and why I am a happy member of our classy community, and why I avoid some other forums all together

So this wouldn’t be a good time to mention Michael Jackson? 🫣

Lol I was thinking of him also, but restrained myself. :smiley_cat:

I thought of him earlier, too. Especially because Billie Jean is accepted as such a big part of B2B.

@barney, I hear you. Please hear me.

I was neither attempting nor intending to normalize anyone, Jerry Lee Lewis included.

What drew me to B2B in the first place was my love for music. What I ultimately found on this forum were people who shared that love. That’s why I’m here, and why I remain here.

To me, the In Memoriam thread is where we remember the people who loved music as much, and most often, more than we do or ever could, but have left us for parts unknown. That’s what I intended to do with my post, and that’s all.

None of us is perfect, most especially me. We all have tons of flaws. Jerry Lee was no different, in my mind. But the fact is he was a music great, and he’s gone. Whatever else he was or did will never diminish his musical impact on the world.

We all die. And we’re defined and, depending on a given person’s spiritual or religious bent, we’re judged by the merit of how we lived.

To me, that’s heady stuff, well beyond the ken of us poor souls on a beginner bass forum.

You might well disagree. And, if you do, more power to you. We can disagree and remain fellow music lovers, if not exactly friends.

I apologize for being short or unkind in my initial reply to you, but I found your post irrelevant to the intent of mine and to what I perceived the purpose of the thread to be. Maybe I misinterpreted the thread. I will own that.

Anton Fier died last month. He was the producer, drummer and driving force of the Golden Palominos. I heard of the Golden Palominos while listening to the radio back in the early 90’s. On the program, they mentioned that it was interesting that they paired such diverse guitarists as Henry Kaiser and Richard Thompson on one album. Then they played Boy (Go) and Omaha from the album Visions of Excess. I soon wound up owning The Golden Palominos a History (1982-1985), (1986-1989) and Drunk with Passion. This was a band that wasn’t a band. It consisted of Fier on Drums, Nicky Skopelitis on guitar and Bill Laswell on bass. Most of the time. The only constant really was Anton Fier. Vocals were done by several different singers including Michael Stipe, John Lydon, Syd Straw, Amanda Kramer, Bob Mould and Jack Bruce. The variety is breathtaking especially on the history CDs. It almost comes across as a mix tape. They accompanied me on many cross country trips in the 90’s for that reason.
Here is Jack Bruce singing Silver Bullet:
