Oscar Ghiglia, classical guitar genius, has passed away at 85. He has left a legacy of outstanding musical performances and hundreds of students who had the opportunity to learn directly from the maestro. My best friend was one of his students. RIP

Dickey Betts, Allman Brothers Band Singer/Guitarist, Dies At 80:
RIP, Dickey…
Saw this in the news. I loved the Allman Brothers. Their musicianship, arrangements and original tunes were and still are outstanding. The way they fused blues and jazz with a signature Southern flavor was unique and never equaled by the slew of Southern Rock bands that came after.
Dickey far outlived Duane, his true brother in guitar. Considering how legendarily hard those cats partied, making it to 80 was a true achievement. Great job, Dickey. You really hit the note.
another difficult one for me but gary floyd, singer for the dicks has died. the dicks were kind of a good but generic hardcore band, mostly known for nirvana covering their song “dicks hate police” a lot of times. but then they moved from texas to san francisco, and got a new guitarist and drummer (the amazing lynn perko). and they only put out one more album and it was generally hated for being “not hardcore” enough (and they were also hated because gary was openly gay). but the album was “these people” and it is one of my all time favorite albums and something completely unique, punk rock with a blues edge. they broke up shortly afterwards, and gary (and lynn) went on to other relatively well known bands, like sister double happiness. i invite anybody to give it a listen (the first 30 seconds is weird, don’t click off) and rest easy gary.
RIP, I still have that LP.
You mean Mudhoney covering that song?
ahh yes correct. it all gets a bit fuzzy now.
chicago guy, knew him since i was a kid but never friends with him. big black was one of my fave bands. shocking.
I can’t F’ing believe this…
