Indeed it is! Welcome @BobW
Hey all! Thanks for having me.
Hi @jmcadguy!
Glad you are with us!
If anyone else is interested in something about @jmcadguy - He made quite a large profile text about himself.
“Turns out this guy can play his [bass] guitar kind of like I play the drums”
Oof… It sounds like you talk about slap/pop and I hope you’ll come to like more than just slap. I mean… I love slap and slap basslines and think they’re awesome. But normal basslines can also be awesome and to really learn slap can take a lot of time. Good luck with that journey anway.
@juli0r Actually, its syncopation and rhythmic use of pedal tones. Think - Justin Chancellor. I’ve tried to play some slap and as of now, I got nothin’. So far I am enjoying grooves and playing root notes along with songs like Wagon Wheel (Rucker). Building up pinky strength has been a huge focus as I am weary of extra fret noises lol.
Okay that’s cool and probably comes fairly easy to you as… drummer, pianist and trumpet player. I’d say you’re really talented but the meme sprung immediately into my head:
“woah, how did you become so good at playing?”
“practice”
“You must be really talented”
“practice”
“I wish I would be as talented as you”
“then practice”
I just thought of slap/pop because it is very often described as “you can use it as rythm device kinda like a bassdrum and snare”
@juli0r For sure! Also, I am by no means good at the bass yet. Working on Module 7 now with an overall plan of 60-65 days for course completion. When it was said that Billie Jean is a tongue twister for your fingers… 100% agree. What I need next is to find some folks to jam with again. Most of my friends play acoustic folk-esque campfire music. Really hard to play the drums or bass (sans acoustic) in that setting. My djembe gets a lot of work right now.
Hey everyone! I’ve been lurking on the forums for a couple months but guess I’ll go ahead and say hi.
I’m Brad, 36, currently live in Cincinnati. Bought a cheap bass at the start of the pandemic lockdown to give myself something to do. Signed up for B2B and just now finished the course, and I’m blown away by the progress I’ve made since I started practicing every day. I equate it to running up a long hill – don’t think about the entire hill at first, just keep your eyes focused a few feet ahead of you. Then when you get to the top, look back at the giant hill you’ve somehow climbed.
Since I grew up in Memphis, I’ve been diving pretty deep into Duck Dunn’s Stax catalog, which is a great place to start as he usually keeps it simple. Also tons of fun to play along to Otis Redding tunes
Music theory is making a lot more sense on bass that it ever did on guitar for some reason. Really feel like the last couple of months have been my first steps in becoming an actual, legit “musician” and that is very exciting.
Many thanks to Josh and everyone in this community. I’ll try to actually contribute here going forward!
Welcome @bjams!

That’s a good analogy. Next up for me: Slap Mountain.
Welcome @bjams
Welcome aboard @bjams,
Enjoy the ride.

I am immediately reminded of Robert Pirsig. Don’t know if that rings a bell.
Welcome!
Welcome @bjams.
Enjoy the fun
My old company was headquartered in Mason. I been to Cincinnati a few times for company dinners. One place was in a run down renovated building on Elm st. And Elm St was a NIGHTMARE. Shot out. Boarded up windows, couches on the street corners for the dope dealers, and actually a posted sign saying not to buy heroin from the street people.
But the place was amazing. Inside softball, volleyball, rooftop bars, good food. It was an experience for sure. I like it back there tho, I have been around Ohio with different companies I have worked for.
Thankyou
Thankyou Pam
