Introduce Yourself! (2018-2022)

You could die, I guess? Dehydrated on your bass because you couln’t drop it anymore? :no_mouth:

Jokes aside, welcome here @studio, looking forward for your progression’s video!

Holy Cow! Learning the bass in 30 days is a challenge in itself: having a live gig at the end of the same 30 days is (almost) Herculean!

When I started out on the course I intended to do it in 30 days because I had some experience behind me and plenty of time on my hands, but I wouldn’t have the nerve to set a goal like that as well as learning the instrument. Good luck on all aspects of your monthly challenge.

Just out of interest, what were some of your previous challenges? Dare I ask how they went?

Thanks Pete
I have learned to swim and then competed in a 1 mile open water race which I did in 31 minutes and came 91st out of 450 swimmers.
I have had cold showers every day for a month, done 100 press ups daily for a month and last month, as a non runner, I ran 30 runs in 30 days covering 150 miles.
November I was supposed to be sleeping rough for the whole month but the charity got cold feet and pulled out so I was left high and dry without a challenge.
I have a big challenge coming up in the new year that involved the bass and I just happened to see a couple of Josh’s videos on youtube and thought it would be a good time to learn the bass.
As for the gig at the end of the month, I need a scary goal or I never do anything. There is now a lot of motivation to practice the bass every day, multiple times a day.

I may have to call the police; you’ve stolen all of my motivation & drive  and I suspect you’ve got a few other people’s too.

Very impressive.

Yeah, mine too!

Maybe we should file a class action suit? . . .

@studio are all of these trials for charity?

Some are just for personal growth and some are for charity
I volunteer for a local charity so I normally do it for them and my wife does a lot of work for Romanian dog rescue so I do some for them.
Next year I am cycling 2000 miles to Romania to raise awareness and fund for her charity.

Salut et bienvenue @Audrey! :tada:

Welcome @Feggarow! Hope your finger pain gets better soon. And in a way, I envy that you know what genres you’re into! I’m so all over the place it can be hard to know what I want to spend time working on. Pros and cons on either side of the fence.

Welcome @Adrian-J02! Glad you’re digging the course! I’ve heard that about the Fender lessons from others, I’ve never seen them myself. Although certain aspects of my videos can also be… robotic… :robot:

Welcome Paul @studio! Can’t wait to get updates on your challenge! Feel free to start your own thread in Chat so we can find all your updates in one place, if you want to journal as you go.

Always wanted to play the bass, so at 63, I watched your reviews of a good first bass, bought a Yamaha TRBX304, ordered the B2B course and completed the first module the first day. I am beyond excited. Singing bass and hearing the bass line has always been fairly intuitive for me, so I have high hopes and expectations. Love the course so far! Looking forward to reading tips, other suggestions, and learning of resources for music, gear, etc.

Wow! So many new people. Welcome everybody!

We have such a great group of people from so many different backgrounds. If you have any Bass questions, chances are good someone here can answer them. We’re all still learning. So, don’t hesitate to ask about anything you need.

Has Josh been sending out the pressgang again? There’s been a real influx or new folk lately. Not that I’m implying you all hang out at the docks - though I do recognise a few faces.

Welcome to the forums!

I hung out here for a few weeks before taking the plunge with the course, hence I knew it was a good bunch before I started. I suspect a few folk do that, so join us: nobody bites!
