Through the years, I’ve “played around” with music, never really getting serious. I self-taught myself the chorus to several Scott Joplin rags on the piano when I was young. I also learned to play a simplified version of Blackbird on the guitar. Then I had a private trombone instructor at age 10 and studied for a year. In high school, I played the trombone in the concert band and orchestra. After high school, I did not do anything musically until 1997, where I started saxophone lessons. I did that for a year, then my teacher quit to become a chiropractor. I did not take it up after that.
Here we are in present day at 59 years old, I finally bit the bullet and bought a Yamaha TRBX304 upon Josh’s recommendation. I started the course on Dec 10th and haven’t stopped since. I am on Module 9 now and loving it. I use Rocksmith as well to test my progress. I have a perfect score on Smash mouth, All Star! Still haven’t got Billie Jean, though. Now, I’m obsessed with Dua Lipa, Don’t Start Now. It will be the death of me. “What?!?!? You can’t play Billie Jean and you’re moving on to Don’t Start Now?!?!”. Yeah, so sue me.

LOL don’t feel too bad about Billie Jean…I ended up putting the bass away in disgust after trying it for the first time…anyway, welcome to the club @pfe4all

Welcome @pfe4all… Many of us here are 50+, 60+, 70+ years old so you’ll fit right in!! 
The TRBX304 is a great bass. I have one that I still use regularly. I took the B2B course using my TRBX174EW, and also use it at times. Glad to hear that you’re making your way through the course. Good Luck! Oh, and yea, Billie Jean is one wicked mistress!!

Billie Jean yes it is an obstacle yet a wise person @John_E told me to go to youtube and practice with Billie as you can slow the song down to your speed.

Hi! I’m excited to be here learning bass from @JoshFossgreen and learning alongside bass players around the world! This course is fantastic! I was previously an online learning experience designer in the executive education space and I’m wildly impressed with the quality of this course and it’s approach to learning and community! I’m having so much fun working through the lessons. Thank you!! (I first learned about the course via the bass lessons I was taking from Josh via YouTube videos.)

Music has been a part of my life since childhood. My first instrument is voice. As a teenager, I took lessons on acoustic guitar to be able to accompany myself for singing gigs. I put the guitar aside in my 30s and picked it back up a decade later.

Piano accordion has been my pursuit for the more recent years. I love it! And go to accordion camp in Portland, Oregon in the summer. I play accordion and guitar (and sing) in our band, Scott Greeson & Trouble With Monday (Scott Greeson Music in YT).

Scott and I often go out as a duo or as a trio or quartet with other musician friends. Learning to play bass has seemed like a wise choice for our smaller band configurations when our awesome bass player isn’t with us. He, Greg, is a person I really look up to. He and our drummer, Stan, create such a solid foundation in our band for everything we play. Love, love, love them, and each of our fellow bandmates! We’ve been together over 20 years.

When not playing music, I am a speaker and facilitator of workshops and sessions on leadership, team dynamics and team communications. I am also a facilitator of the DiSC profile (for personal development). It’s neat how lessons in music and playing in a band can fit so well in conversations about communications and team dynamics.

Lately, I’ve been studying the addition of silence to the morning routine, deep breathing and meditation. It’s helped my music by leaps and bounds!

On our farm, we enjoy the company of llamas and my Connemara pony, Chirico.
