Welcome @CanadianTLC ! I’m originally from Ottawa as well I live in Toronto right now.
Glad to hear you’ve found a bass that works for you - I’m even shorter than you are, maybe I should take a look at smaller basses as well! So far I’ve been finding the microshifting is working ok for me.
Hi everyone, I’m Alexandre from France. I don’t have any background in music and decided to begin my journey with the guitar bass. I started B2B last October and had fun going through the lessons. I just finished the course at the end of December. Hoping to learn more about music and improve my bass skill.
See you on the forum.
I shared my bass, so now I guess I have to share myself.
I’m an American diplomat and spend most of my life packing and repacking all of my possessions and moving around the world every few years. So, I thought what would be the easiest most portable instrument? After deciding the triangle didn’t have enough range, I thought screw it, I’ll get a bass guitar.
I played trumpet as a kid into early adulthood. I recently tried to get those chops back, but wasn’t having much luck and always felt I was more of a rhythm guy. I started the course on a Kala U-Bass since I already play a little ukulele, but quickly ran into some limitations and decided it might be better to learn on a full size bass first and then have the little guy for travel.
I’m living in Hungary these days, but previously lived in the U.S., Austria, The Bahamas, and Afghanistan. Probably no one else from Budapest on here, but if so let me know.
Only 49, you’re a spring chicken, I am 71 and started Bass in February of 2021 and am in the rural Barrie Ontario area. TBH I have a music background going back to when I was seven but stringed instruments only since 1972.
Great to hear you have a built in jam buddy system. I love playing with others and Covid is really starting to grate on me. By the way did you know you have the largest ukulele jam group in Canada, if not North America. Great resource for song lead sheets and in the uke jam groups I was attending it was no surprise to see a Bass player show up.
Here is a link to their site if you are interested.
I lived in Barrie for years, having grown up in Simcoe County. That is funny you mention that - one of my coworkers told me the same thing. Said it was a blast. They are meeting on zoom these days so you could still connect with your old friends. Did you have to buy a baritone bass to participate? We actually have one at home but I am not sure how good it is - it is quite old.
