Introduce Yourself! (2018-2022)

What’s up? I’m Rylo from California. I goofed around on bass as a kid, but mostly wrote lyrics and sang (horribly) for a couple short lived bands. Later, I got semi-serious with hip hop and put out a thing or two with my group. Here I am now in my late 30’s and picked the bass back up a couple years ago, and practice/play for fun when I can (I’ve really improved a lot in those couple years). I enjoy learning and playing all sorts of genres of music, but have to say my favorite band of all time is Black Sabbath and Geezer Butler is my bass hero! Anyways, I look forward to learning a thing or two and having fun with you guys here on BassBuzz!

Welcome to the forum and the course @JordanLund! Thanks for your kind words about my teaching.

And I promise, I am most definitely NOT a “really good actor.” Rather, I am demonstrably a “terrible actor,” as evidenced by my starring role as Noob Josh in videos like this: :stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome @taylor215, hope you’re enjoying the course! Definitely watch the early lessons at least once, there are lots of technique tips and stuff buried in there, even though you’ll be too advanced for the play-alongs.

Welcome Rylo @Electric_Funeral44, nice Sabbath handle.

@Jazzbass19 & @JerryP Thanks guys!

@JoshFossgreen I’ve been working through the early lessons and play-alongs. It’s actually nice because I can work on the tips on muting and things like that. Funny thing, I actually remember watching the Journey party trick video back when I first started.

@Electric_Funeral44 N.I.B. is one of my favorite riffs. Welcome!

Hi all.

So, I basically grew up a Punk Rock Pier Rat in HB, CA.
Always loved Bass since I was 11 and I first listened to “Peace thru Vandalism” by The Vandals.

Later on, in my Thrash days, I decided to play Guitar, mostly cuz of Dimebag…

Have not played Guitar in over 15 years, and I have had a bit of time on my hands and decided, to pass time in Rehab, I would start playing again, but that it was time to play bass, once and for all.
I picked up an Ibanez GSR 200 (before hearing they suck  ) along with an SWR combo amp off CL for $125, and after tweaking on it a bit, new strings and lower action, I love this Bass,
I started to play. First finding song tabs online and just jammin them out. I am having a blast; there are a few guitar players here to jam with, it’s great.

However, playing learned songs is great, but I want to do so much more with my now 2 basses ( found a package deal on let go I couldn’t pass. I am selling the amp and cab, hoping the bass ends up free) It’s an ‘06 Schecter Elite-5.

Anyway, have not started any lessons yet, but I stress the yet.
No better way to pass the time in lock down, on lock down.

Lots of good info I have been reading here in the forum.
I need to balance my time however, cuz I could easily get hung up here, and run out of time to play for the day, something I did the first night I started looking around.

Off to get 20-30 min play time in before I fall asleep. Idk if that all came out right, but I am in no mood to proof read now, so it is what it is
See ya around.

Welcome.
Just put on “Great Southern Trendkill” today to check to see if the riffs were as amazing as I thought they were.

Yep.
They were.

Happy bass playing!

And welcome @Electric_Funeral44.
I just worked through some Sabbath transcriptions.
Geezer gets better the more you dig into what he does. So so rad.

Yeah, @Gio NIB was the first song I picked up to play on bass. It’s a fun one.

The best Pantera IMO is Vulgar Display of Power, although trendkill is awesome too. Didn’t care for the one in between those tho. Far beyond driven, was my least favorite.

Welcome @T_dub! Glad you’re digging your GSR, I’ve heard from many happy GSR players after we slammed them in our reviews. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks you.

@JoshFossgreen, it was just a friendly jab
The GSR 200 was the nicest feeling “Cheap” Bass I got a chance to play at GC, so when I found one on C/L for cheap with a practice amp, I jumped on it.
Ibanez lists it as a beginner bass, and I am sure it’s not much more then just that. Feels nice, good enuf to learn on, and once I finish the B2B, and have years under my belt, I am sure It would no longer suit my needs, as it will be lacking in the areas you pointed out.
And being the collector type I am, It could end up retired sooner, but for now it suits my needs.
I appreciate the honest review TBH, I rather hear “don’t buy this” after having it, then being told it’s gold, and find out later I was doused.

Also, enjoying B2B so far. Have about 15 hours into it now, started last night around 9.pm pacific, and got thru Module 4 today. I liked the Billy Jean challenge a lot.
Hope to be shredding soon.:star_struck::sunglasses:

Well, I’m new to this forum. At 73, I decided to get back into Bass. I played in a “garage band” while I was in high school - mid-sixties. When I went off to college, I sold all my gear.

I have been volunteering as an audio, video, lighting, (AVL) lead at churches for the past 25 years. After retiring about eight years ago, I picked up playing guitar. Something was missing.

After hearing a 5-string bass in one of our church recitals, I was hooked. I sprung for a Spector Euro 5 LX. In two days, I have gone thru nine lessons. I am having fun. Hopefully, someday soon, I can be on the other side of the mixing console.

Hey everyone

I’m Kerry. I started playing bass in my teens then gave it up. I guess I just wasn’t in the right mindset. I’m now almost 50 and I bought a Fender P-Bass in December and started playing again. This time I signed up for Fender Play which has been a bit helpful, but I felt like I needed something a little more I guess you could say aggressive. I have been watching some of Josh’s videos on youtube and I love the way Josh teaches. So my Trump money bought me Beginner To Badass so here I am.

I enjoy a wide range of music from Garth Brooks to Hollywood Undead. My favorite bass players are Billy Sheehan, Duff McKagan, Mike Dirnt, Flea and Geddy Lee the list goes on.

My day to day life I am a father of two girls (23 y/o and 16 y/o I also have a five year old grandson. I am a Network Operation Specialist for a telecom company and I have been doing that for about 5 years.

I have no dreams of being a rockstar but I would love to get the ability to play in a classic rock band before I have thoughts of retirement.

Hello Bass Buzz, i’m brand new to this forum, but not new to the bass. I own a 5 string G&L 5500 that has been getting dusty for too long. I’m about to start the Badass training her shortly and wanted to get fully immersed in the community first.
