Howdy! Thank you for creating this space. I have really enjoyed following BassBuzz on YouTube! I am a long time guitar player, new to the bass. I am a older Honeybadger and very passionate about things that interest me. I also enjoy martial arts including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai. Married with kids and grandkids, I use music to spend time with my Pop. Thank you and I look forward to learning much more!

Hey, all! I first want to state that this appears to be a wonderfully supportive group. My name is Rick and I’m a 50+ yr old beginner. I’ve always had an interest in guitar/bass and even purchased a few guitars with the intention of learning. It never really happened until now. I’ve taken a couple of in person and virtual bass lessons and now I’m all in on BassBuzz. Learning this new skill will be a challenge, but that’s one of the things that keeps life interesting. My absolute favorite band is YES and my favorite bassist is the late Chris Squire. That said, I listen to a wide variety of music. McCartney, Mastodon and Minus the Bear get a lot of my attention currently. I look forward to the challenge and some interaction with the group.

Welcome to the forum Max @quadfather!

Welcome @Honeybadger, good to have another martial arts enthusiast around! We’ve got quite a few (myself barely included, it’s been years now since I was actually doing JKD, but I sure miss it).

Welcome @sanfordrick! Chris Squire is awesome.

I’m an actor (62 years old, started at 14) and an acting teacher. I’ve been playing guitar for 50 years. Seriously for 3. Just bought a bass, want to learn, and can’t seem to put it down.

I love playing music with other musicians, just like I love to act with other actors.

I’m having a blast every time I pick up my bass. I’ve always thought I’ve had a pretty decent sense of time, and when I play rhythm guitar I love to find the groove with the drummer. So the bass is perfect. My fingers are having a good time. I thought I’d enjoy a short scale bass more, coming from guitar. And I thought I bought one, but by mistake, I ordered the wrong guitar, and ended up with a 34" scale.
I’m still not sure if I’ll like a shorty better than what I got, but I like what I’m playing.
Started off budget. Yamaha RBX 170Y. I did a set up myself. I usually work on my own guitars, and with a little YouTube post-graduate work, I got the hang of getting my bass in the best playable shape. Did a little work on the truss rod, bridge, nut and put on a set of new flats.
Right now, I want to stop typing and reach over and pick up that bass. Anyway, it’s after 1 am, and I’m having a good time writing this.
Today was my first day of doing the lessons here at BassBuzz. I did the first 13, so I’m halfway through Module 02. I love the course, and the lessons. Josh is a gifted teacher. Yeah, he’s a pretty amazing bassist, but as a teacher he’s rare and special. I’m a teacher myself. I’m really impressed by Josh’s ability to be so clear, articulate and clever when he teaches. It’s obvious that he’s a gifted musician, with a great depth of knowledge. But he also really loves the instrument, and loves sharing his wisdom about it. He brings a patience and warmth that is clear to students, unless he’s a really good actor. He makes it very easy to want to learn in these lessons. So now it’s getting close to 2am, and my wife is fast asleep. So, I’m going to put on some headphones, plug in my weapon of bass destruction, and find some blues and some funk backing tracks on YouTube, and jam. (I know…I’ve downloaded the BassBuzz tracks, but I like to live dangerously sometimes).

Welcome.

This resonated with me a lot. I’m a jack of all trades and master of none.

And you’re post inspired me. I’ve been in a lull. Going to pick up my bass now and get back into it.

What’s up guys? I played for a few years, mostly pick and tabs, but never really took learning serious. Spent the first couple days poking around the early modules, trying to learn fingerstyle, and cleaning up some bad habits. Hope you guys are all staying safe and healthy.
