And hello and welcome to everyone who joined while I was dreaming of grimy basses in need of tlc…
Hi everyone. My name is Mike and I’m starting the full course today. I’m a 45 year old international teacher currently working in Dubai. I started to noodle on the bass about 20 years ago, but never had any serious instruction and quickly stalled trying to teach myself. I’m looking forward to having some actual instruction to help me become better at playing an instrument I’ve always loved the look and sound of. I’m planning on spending a good chunk of my summer vacation working my way through this course, learning more about music, and having fun making thumpy sounds.
Welcome @fghtffyrdmns and @MDA!
Welcome @fghtffyrdmns - I wanna see your cat! Do you have pictures?
Welcome @MDA - I wish good luck and a lot of fun in the course. It’s really amazing how good it is structured and how one learns stuff with Josh telling you lessons later that you actually learned more than you thought.
Welcome @MDA
@fghtffyrdmns = Fight for your demons (my best guess)
Welcome to our forum @fghtffyrdmns
Good call.
I’m gonna go for “fight off your demons”.
Welcome to the forum @jenny20, glad you’re digging the course!
Welcome @crippledring, amazing story about McCoy and Jimmy Garrison!
Welcome @kevinmcmullan, I’m really into that album right now too! For anyone else reading -
Dooooope bass playing.
Welcome @ChuckGuy8 , glad you’re enjoying the course!
Welcome Jess @fghtffyrdmns, hope your cat doesn’t knock your bass over.
Welcome @MDA, have fun thumping!
Hi Jess welcome aboard, sounds familiar to me
I also watched them all b4 signing up to the B2B course. Only regret is I waited to long. @Troppo5 is a great teacher, gently guiding you along the path.

Welcome aboard Mike, you found the right spot and a great teacher, with awesome forum members.

I have missed an introduction with a cat reference?
I HAVE MISSED AN INTRODUCTION WITH A CAT REFERENCE
I have been told I must now repent.
Welcome, Jess (@fghtffyrdmns). I apologise for having ignored your cat reference.
siiiiick. (I used the same amount of vowels… but i doesn’t look as robust as o.)
Welcome Mike,
Enjoy the course.
Cheers
Damn’ right
Hi,
My name is Rory and I’m from Melbourne, Australia.
I turn 60 in June and I’m married to a gorgeous lady named Pavla.
She’s from the Czech Republic but has lived here for 25 years.
I’ve always wanted to play bass after buying my first album @ 13yo in 1973.
It was Deep Purple’s Machine Head and the song was Smoke on the Water…
When the Bass kicks in it sends shivers down my spin.
I’m self employed in the furniture industry and have been since 1982.
The 80’s were difficult for me in that I was a drug addict for 10 years.
I’m clean of those drugs but now have an opioid problem that came about from a skydiving accident in 1984 that should have killed me.
I need the pain killers because I’m a chronic pain sufferer because the disentangle smashed both ankles to the point they want to amputate my right foot.
So without PK’ I can’t function but I’m also dependent.
My passion in life is sailing and I’ve been doing that since I was 9yo.
I own a 40’ yacht called Reckless (photo attached) and if you’re interested I can be seen on YouTube under my name Rory Thomas.
My wife talked me into taking up the bass.
I was reluctant because I have a disabled left hand from another accident and I knew I’d struggle.
She point out that since my accident I’ve had to make adjustments with everything I do so why expect the bass to be different.
She was right and here I am.
I’m really enjoying it but finding it frustrating because I can’t do what you guys do but I’m getting there.
The support for the people on here has been nothing short of amazing and I thank you all.
Thanks for reading my post and if you have any questions please ask.
Welcome @rory
I wholeheartedly agree with your wife and hope the frustration wears off once you tailor techniques for yourself.
Nice yacht. My godfather owns one too.
Unfortunately he’s a bit of a rich jerk/sociopath.
Fortunately and as expected he has not founded a family himself which might mean that the “rich” part could get interesting. I’d still prefer a nice godfather over money but it’s better than nothing.
Welcome @rory. Yes that’s an awesome song. We had some great music in those days.
Nice boat!
Thanks Pam,
Yes she’s a ripper.
I race her and also cruise her.
As long as I’m on her I’m happy.
The 70’s were great for classic rock for sure.
I love the start of SOTW because you can hear the influence each instrument has as they join the lead guitar.
Welcome aboard, @rory . . .
You’ve had quite an adventurous past . . .
glad you’ve survived it, and we’ll be seeing you around the Forums!
Cheers, Joe
G’day mate,
Thanks for saying hi.
Yes I have a very colourful past, in fact I’m putting pen to paper so my grandchildren can read about when I’m gone.
God bles
