Thx for the welcome. I’ve been playing for a long time, but I lack discipline and I don’t want to develop bad habits. I feel like I spent 20 years breaking the bad technique and sloppiness of the first 10. I really love to listen to good bass players and I’m inspired to give it a go. Thx again, I’m happy to be here.

Hi, just signed up. I’m Gordon, I’m 53 and live in Scotland. I used to play bass in a few bands in my teens and early twenties. Played a few small gigs, was never very good, picked up a lot of bad habits but we had fun.

I decided recently I’d like to pick up a bass again and learn to play a bit more ‘properly’ so I signed up for B2B, got myself a Harley Benton JB75 - nothing fancy I know but it plays well enough for the money. The reviews stating it was heavy weren’t kidding though :open_mouth: I’m already eyeing up a Sterling Ray4 or a TRBX304 if I stick with it.

Anyway, I’m really enjoying the lessons so far and happy to be here. Happy new year whenever it arrives for you.

Welcome @gspeirs from a fellow Scotland resident (though non-native!)! I’m a bit farther north than yourself living just north of Inverness.

Hi everyone - Josh K. here, from Northeast Ohio
I’m 46yo, and grew up in choir and playing saxophone from elementary through High-school. I was ok, but like most teens, I didn’t really apply myself like I should have (big regret actually). Haven’t played much at all since then (30 years ago now), but I’m grateful for learning how to at least somewhat read music and get some basic theory (though all on treble-clef - learning bass-clef now is tricky for my slightly older brain). I have always loved music, and especially rhythmic music, like funk, 60s-90s rock, and jazz fusion. Nathan East and Wayman Tisdale have been a couple of my fav’s for many years. Been wanting to learn bass for probably 20 years at least, but always scared I’d give up when it got hard and wouldn’t see it through. Still a fear of mine - “marathon’s” have always been tough for me. But my wife, who plays acoustic, and many on this forum have reminded me, only I am in charge of doing something that brings joy. I just started B2B this week, and just completed the 1st module, and LOVE Josh’s teaching style so far - slow and steady-eddie. Though I’m shooting for the 3-mos plan, even if it takes me 6 to get some of these basics down, I’m really looking forward to it! Just hope I don’t allow frustration of slow progression to beat me down - I REALLY don’t want that. I’ve set a goal for myself to be able to sight-read, “jam on demand”, and play with my local church worship band well by the time I’m 50, which gives me 4 years.

Thanks for this program, and for all that work hard to keep it ‘alive’. I feel sorta honored to join so many talented and helpful people here!

Thanks and Happy New Year (2025) to everyone!
-Josh K. (JGruv)

Welcome, @JGruv. Glad you’re here. Strap up and strap in. B2B is the best way to learn bass. Enjoy!

Absolutely new to the bass and learning at 54. I held my mates and he let me pluck the E string as teens but I wasn’t cool enough to join the school band.

My cat died on Xmas Eve so I need something to occupy my mind now the house is quiet. I figure the experience might help me play the blues too. D

Signed up on New Year’s Eve so I’m guessing I am one of the last of the class of 2024.

Had a fiddle with my new bass and I’m really looking forward to the lessons.

Welcome, @rotatingdog1970. Glad you’re here. Very, very sorry to hear about your dear cat. They leave too soon. Music can help channel your energy and B2B is the best way to learn. Enjoy the lessons.

Welcome to our band @rotatingdog1970 … where everyone is cool enough!

So sorry to hear about your cat… :frowning: Having the bass as a distraction will surely help keep your mind occupied and you go through the rough times. I have 2 of them… they are my family now. Just me and my cats.

You are going to enjoy the course, Josh is the best teacher EVER!

Welcome!!
