Introduce Yourself! (2024)

Howdy! New subscriber here, but not a new player. I’ve been playing bass for 8 years now, and earning a decent supplemental income with it for the last 5 or so years (although most of my earnings go to new music gear!). I’ve been gigging with 2 bands with the goal of out earning my wife’s bar tab. Mostly successfully. I’m mostly self taught, and was well aware that I had some bad habits that were holding back my progress. I was looking for bass lessons, and I’ve taken lessons in the past, but 90% of the instructors I find are NOT primarily bass players. Most of them are 6 string players or piano teachers who just know how to play a little bass. I’ve taken lessons at SBL in the past but didn’t stick with it. I’ve only done a couple of modules at bassbuzz, but I’ve already learned somethings. Namely, my left hand muting sucked, so module 1 muting was good. Also, I’ve always anchored my thumb on the string above what I was playin, so anchoring on the A string to play on the G string was new to me. But, I feel that it’s superior to what I was doing. I can mute the E and A with my thumb, while muting the G and D string with my plucking finger. I appreciate the practice tracks so that I can focus on changing my technique. In just two modules, I’ve found value. Thank you.

Welcome, @harris.marc. Glad you’re here. There are many folks here who have prior experience with various instruments. But B2B is an eye-opener, nonetheless. Josh has a great way of teaching proper bass technique and theory, so there’s plenty of new, cool stuff to learn, plus it’s fun. Enjoy the lessons!

These people should be forced to only go to professionals who moonlight as other things.

Like, if they want a contractor, they have to go to an architect who also owns a hammer and a level.

Or, if they go to a restaurant, their meal gets cooked by the hostess or bus boy because, you know, they also work in the dining industry, same building, basically same thing, right?

Guitarists teaching bass…
What a world.

Hi Josh, Hi All. Just joined the BassBuzz forum. Taking up the bass at age 64, having played acoustic guitar (6 and 12 string) since age 18. Want to add something to groups I play with now I getting older and the younger ones want to lead/play guitar up front. So, it’s bass for me! I sing bass in a local choral society so thought I would give the bass guitar a go too. Very excited to take this course. Best wishes, Roddy

Hi everyone  I’m Jasmine and I finally got around to getting the B2B lessons. So excited! I’m a self-taught pianist ever since elementary school and loved playing by ear growing up. The story of me wanting to get into bass is kind of a bittersweet and funny one, but here I am :joy:

Picked up a cheap Samick from Facebook marketplace (the guy at our local music store made a face when I mentioned that brand lol oops) but it definitely does its job for a beginner like me and has me smiling ear to ear every time I pick it up, which I think is what matters most.

I figured if these lessons go well, then I’d have plenty of time to pick out a brand new bass of my choosing for when my birthday comes around in September, with input from the BassBuzz videos and forums to help me decide of course  The amazing reviews of B2B and helpful community speaks for itself, so the odds look like they’ll be in my favor when I’m in the market for one later down the road as a treat haha.

Anyways, I look forward to reading what yall post in the forums!

Welcome, @whatajashole. Glad you’re here. B2B is the perfect way for a beginner to learn bass the right way. As for basses, the best one to learn with is the one you have close at hand. And don’t worry: When the time comes for an upgrade, all you have to do is ask. Folks here are happy to offer advice and guidance to some great options. Enjoy the lessons!
