Is this a good bass for a beginner?

Im a begginer wanting to learn and buy a bass. I searched alot too see what bass i would want and i found one i like on Gear4Music. I would like some feedback to see if the bass is enough for a begginer since im afraid because i’ve seen some videos where buying cheap basses can go wrong.

Here is the bass:

I would really recommend to avoid this one and consider a used instrument from a good manufacturer and used amp instead if the price is a serious factor. Buying used is typically a terrific idea for beginners when price is an issue.

I considered the option of buying used but since im a begginer, if the bass has a problem i certaintly would not be able to recognise it, thats my issue with buying used.

That would also be your issue with buying this one new

One solution would be to buy used from an actual music store and have them check and set the thing up for you. Most do it for free or for a small fee.

Yeah I agree, for the same price you can easily find a used Squier and it will most certainly be a totally different instrument.

sadly theres not really any store in here thats actually specified in guitars and basses only, also the ones i seached, either dont sell used or the prices are way higher than the ones i saw online.

Yeah, I get it, lots of people in that situation. Still, I would take a chance on an online buy of a used Squier P-bass or something like a used Yamaha TRBX174 well before I would consider buying that one new.

Roughly where are you at? Maybe someone close to local can help out with recommendations.

Also, here’s a good video on how to set up an instrument yourself:

I live in Portugal so im not sure if there will be someone living here as well that knows where i can buy. One major problem is that im trying to buy a bundle for a cheap price insted of the bass itself and then the rest separated since it becomes more expensive.

We actually have people in here from Portugal that might be able to help with recommendations

@gcancella are you still around these days?

Forget the bundle. Spend your budget on the best used bass you can find and get a headphone amp. All the stuff that comes with that bundle will be next to useless.

I thought i still needed the rest to use the headphones amp, since i dont it actually works way better. If thats the case can u recommend me a good website or a specific model thats affordable and good? I’ll also try to check used ones to see wich one is more worth. Im kinda biased in terms of the design and color of the bass so i may or not buy a certain bass if i dont really like such aspects.

If you really can’t find a used bass : the Squier Sonic Precision Bass is probably one of the cheapest “real” instrument, available new at Thomann. I show a Precision Bass because the one you showed at first is a copy of this model so look-wise it’s very similar.

That said, a used Affinity would probably be a slightly better choice. But still, a new Sonic is not the worst option.

Would the HB’s at Thomann be a good deal for a beginner? Those get even closer to the original price point. Thomann in general is probably one of the better options for buying in Europe in your situation I think. They have a great reputation and excellent customer service.

Stick with big brands like Squier, Yamaha and Ibanez sure you are paying more for the brand logo but you are also buying a peace of mind. If you can spring a bit more cash and get the classic vibe series, you won’t have to worry about the build quality at all.

As the matter of fact, I just ordered(15 minutes ago)an opened box Squier affinity telecaster for a project. One came up at the right price an I know I can handle whatever issues that would arise.

Thomann is a superb online vendor for anyone, anywhere. Great selection, prices and service.

I’ve bought two basses from Thomann, and I received them super-fast with zero hassle, from Germany to Texas in four days, door to door!

Would this one be good? like i said im kinda going for the color and style aswell and this one caught my eye since the beginning.

Yeah it’s not bad.

Squier entry level starts with the Bullet,
then affinity it also seems to have a lateral line like sonic
Standard,
classic vibe, paranormal

Yes, this one, for example:

(There are several variations in colour. Make sure to get the PJ model!)

Chat with support or call them to ask if they do a proper setup. Usually they do that for Harley Benton, but I had some different experiences…

To listen through a headphone, this might be enough:

Better is a Boss Katana Go, which is not available at Thomann currently. But surely you can get that somewhere else…

100% right

You need to choose a bass you want to play - if color is a thing don’t change your mind

In terms of new vs used, I see what you mean but I would agree that the risk with basses is rather low (I had a friend who bought a used motorcycle that had issues … and stakes are very different…)

As far as I’m concerned I believe that having an amp (real one) is fun !

And by the way, I have this as well and it works fine but you can’t demonstrate your progress to friends

Another important comment

You have to keep money to pay for the beginner to badass course as this will 100% secure that you have fun and progress quickly . This is the one and only way to progress efficiently and stick with bass
