thank you!
Ooh! These are Nice! I LOVE the Sklar Double Pbass mod!
If you want a balance headless you are going to extend the body or the upper horn so the whole body feel more balance sitting, good example is the bass you’ve already owned the Ibanez EHB.
Understood!
But if a bass has already neck dive (like the OP proposals, with cavities in the body) , would the chance of getting a better balance by making it headless not very high?
Again it’s trials and errors. Chopping a head stock off and converting it to a headless requires some tinkering, where to bolt on the string retainer and adding the bridge tuner. Do you want to break the string at the headless end (too) or at bridge end. The “Fender” headstock is not at the same level at the nut. Here some of my headless
Worth watching (especially for @Whying_Dutchman

woah…
I was thinking, of settling on the Harley benton kit. But, I have a suspision that some of the parts that come with the kit are not of good quality,(tuners, bridge, ETC) So, for a bridge, I settled on a Wilkinson WBBC bridge. But, for the tuners, I have no Idea what are good…Any tuner reccomendations would be nice! And, also, I have settled on this rickenbacker inspired design!
Made in halo custom bass builder. Designed by me on Sketchbook.
Tuners and bridges - Gotoh or Hipshot. Basically the only two brands I use for them.
I prefer Gotoh but YMMV.
Harley benton kit
I modded three HB’s - this is the part list:
The end of a great adventure - all HB basses are done, yay! It’s kind of a double post, but just to wrap it up I repeat it here. All basses are Harley Benton MV-4MSB short scales. Minty-Minty-Mint (active PJ fretless) [minty] Upgrades: 1: Gotoh GB-707 tuners. Cut a aluminium pipe to make it fit. 2: Converted to fretless with veneer 3: Schaller S-Locks 4: 3M 2080 car wrap film to change color on pickguard and control plate 5: Active EMG PJX. The X model fits a short scale very well, ca…
Maybe it helps?
It kinda helps, but I read that, the tuners you used had to have some cutting of pipes…and I have no power tools, and no pipes of any type of alloy at the moment…
Alr, thanks! but…a bit too pricey for me…
the tuners you used had to have some cutting of pipe
I also fixed everything with spit & a dremel ![]()
My case was more complicated as I wanted to have specific tuners. In your case you just have to look at the Gotoh site which tuners fit the peg diameter (and the screw holes, if they already exist).
Beware of imperial measurements! Inches, gallons, ounces and all those strange creatures.
As they don’t use a proper metric system you need to be very sure what diameter you have!
It’s really easy!
Thanks man!
Thanks man!
If you run into issues … double check here!
Can you measure the exact diameter? Or do you know the model of the stock tuners?
Which kit did you buy?
I did not buy it yet…This is just a thread where I share the designs I have in mind. I am thinking of buying the harley benton P kit though…

This one, right?
Harley Benton Bass Guitar Kit P-Style – Thomann UK?
Just chat with Thomann support and ask for diameter or fitting tuners.
I would try their the stock tuners first. They might be ok.
I’d rather spend some $$$ on (EMG) pickups, if I were you!
I think this all depends on the goal of the project. If it’s experimentation, the Benton kit looks like a great deal and the quality will be fine.
If it is crafting a beautiful forever instrument, well, sure then keep looking.
