Thought I would post this swap out of the Jack Casady Bass 3 point bridge and stock tuners. I know it’s just an Epiphone, why upgrade a cheap bass? I really like the way this bass plays and its vibe. But, I don’t like the stock bridge and tuners it came with, so gonna change them out. Thought this might be helpful to anyone else that might be considering doing this also. Anyways this is my approach at doing this, I will post pics as I go through the steps necessary. This is the bass as I got it, before the swap out. More to come as soon as the parts arrive.

That’s actually a good reason to upgrade it. The stock hardware on most Epiphones won’t win any prizes and so upgrading it can dramatically improve the instrument.
It won’t substantially change the value of the thing on resale, but it will likely increase your enjoyment of the instrument, which is what really matters.

Epiphones are made in the same factories in China as the chibsons and the onlydifference on 6 strings that I have worked on is the tuners on some are real grovers. No experience on epi basses but I am gonna follow your progress. I own a few chibbys still but bass is what my focus is on now. Sold my only Les Paul last week and one of my Strats is going on reverb this week. Rock on!

While waiting for the parts to arrive I removed the stock tuners and pulled the bushings. The socket is a small 1/4” 12mm that fit in the tuner hole but stopped at the bushing. A 6mm bolt fits through the socket and pulled the bushings very easily.

Chinese epiphones are made at the same factories as chinese gibsons but gibson does still make high end epiphones in the US.

Inspired by Gibson…
Well this did not workout as I had hoped for. I noticed a small crack on the neck at the headstock on both sides. In trying to spread it so I could get some glue in the crack…the head cracked off. Oh well. I think the crack was there from the shipping as I never dropped, pounded, or banged on it in any way. Talked with Amazon and they said send it back. I did not order another one.

Classic Gibson/Epiphone headstock issue (this is famously a very common point of failure for them.)

I bought a Yamaha BBP34 to replace the broken Epiphone. Guitars that don’t come in cases…. I’m not buying anymore.

The Yamaha is really a sweet instrument. I’ll miss the Jack Casady Epiphone but am very happy to have the Yamaha.

Case in point: Major surgery on snapped off Les Paul headstock (plus overall body and neck restoration).

I have to admit I am an addict when it comes to snapped gibson repairs. Ted Woodford’s work to be specific. I have learned so much watching his channel.
