I was listening to that tune this morning, and one thing that I feel like is that in the opening riff, the bass is slightly behind the drums, that gives it a very distinct feel. Is that what anyone else hears?

Yes. In some parts of the song I feel it more than I hear it. To me, it feels like the band is synched up with bass and the drummer is playing slightly ahead of the beat. Like the drums are dragging things forward. It’s really cool.
