You’re never too old to start.
I had also a bit hiatus… (about 20y)… picked up bass last year… some mishaps in between but still playing.
And yes… hobbies will keep your mind fresh, your wit and ear sharp.
Nobody is asking you to be the next Victor Wooten… play for fun, anything else extra that comes is added bonus!
