I’m nearly clueless on these. Short version is I can get my hands on one pretty easy. Tried to YouTube info but not seen much useful info.
I reckon it could be some fun to play around with but here’s the dumb question part. Do I need a computer to use this thing? Can I run my phone in to it and use that to play music through my amp while I play along with it?
YouTube, while a good resource for many things, is not always your friend. But the manufacturer, in this instance, is, as they’ve put all of their user manuals online:
Skimming quickly over the manual I see that the 500X has an CD / MP3 input jack on the back panel, so that suggests that you can indeed run music through it for practice and such.
And no, it doesn’t require a computer to operate. However, it can be connected to one for MIDI, recording, and firmware updates. The Pilot’s Guide goes into all of that stuff.
Line 6 gear is generally very good and usually their modeling is a step above their competitors. It’s why the Helix is still about the best multieffects unit you can buy in the mid price tier, despite being like 10 years old now and more expensive than the more recent boxes from Boss etc.
I had a 2000s-ish Bass POD Pro and it was fantastic. @terb collects PODs. They are great, if the price is good, I would say try it.
Thanks guys. I’m a mechanical person and most of this stuff flys right over my head. I have a really nice laptop I bought about ten years, but I probably haven’t opened it in 5. It’s not something I want to fool with every evening when I sit down to play.
I’ve got a TRBX 174 on marketplace that nobody wants, and someone offered this on trade. Why not? Could be fun. And if you guys vouch for it that’s good enough for me. I’ll dig in to the manual then. Thanks again!
I have a POD HD 500, it’s very good for guitar but the bass models are not so good. I would highly recommend a X3 Live which is cheaper and way better for bass in my opinion.
