Lipstick pickups on a Bass VI? Is it worthwhile wiring in series?

My strat lipsticks arrived last night-I’ll put up pics tonight when I get home).
I have to wait until Sunday to put them in as I am going camping for a few days.
I’ll do some clean recordings with the phone before and after.

All in.
Haven’t made any recordings yet tho.
The lipsticks sound good and look good, I think there is a difference but I can’t quantify it.
I initially wired in an on/off switch but did something wrong as it somehow connected the bridge and neck pickups all the time except when turned off in the middle position- I did like the sound but disconnected it and returned to standard-I will revisit after pondering time.

What are the two thingies above the pickup selector, below the middle pup? Is that the high pass filter you mentioned earlier in the thread?

The one towards the bridge is the hi-pass filter, that works well.
The forward one is for the neck/bridge on/off and is currently not connected.
I will revisit this but because I have the laBella strings on and they are easily damaged with frequent unwinding (because the E is too long) I will wait a while before I re-wire it.
I am not sure what I did wrong as it was on all the time except for one setting only (middle pickup position).

I tried rewiring my switch but just can’t make it work the way I want it to.
I am thinking seriously about one of these switches down the track now.
Not soon but eventually, should be an easy drop in for the current switch and it looks like there are some wiring options.
I currently have the lipsticks at varying heights which really varies the character of each.
Very happy with them. Feeling the Bass VI love.

You’re inspiring me to get b2b started on my vass vi (and get the pickups in lol)

I haven’t re-done B2B with it but that is a good idea, and on the fretless and on the 5 string…yeah, nah.
I am doing the GuitarJamz courses on the little high pitched 6 string novelty instrument and I was doing the arpeggio/chord excersises on the Bass VI last night; sounded good.
Gotta say the lipsticks are working very well.
A second Jazz sized one arrived in the post during the week and that will go into another bass (with a lipstick in the bridge position) over the weekend.
That will match them up and should sound good I hope.
I am tempted to wire them permanently in series but may leave that to a later mod depending on how it sounds.

You won’t regret it. Aesthetically, it looks the same. In the normal orientation, all five positions work as normal. Pull the switch to the side, and now you have five new positions. And the soldering is all through-hole and super easy to do, with nice labels printed on the circuit board so you know what’s what.

I’ll do it down the track I think.

All fixed now, I had a look at the “Gilmour” switch which was a much simpler version of what I was trying to do and now it works and sounds epic.
Great range.
Lots of good lower end goodness
