I thought I’d drop a note to say thank you to everyone who’s made this forum and the Bass Buzz family in general what it is. When I got my new Yamaha and I started searching around for tunes, tab and other resources Bass Buzz kept coming up again and again and the vibe seemed to fit. So I bit the bullet and signed up for the course a few weeks ago and I couldn’t be happier.
But one of the things I hadn’t figured on was the forum being such a lovely welcoming place. All the folk here are so genuine and helpful and I’m sure that doesn’t happen by accident so well done all the old heads for making it what it is. No joke I find myself checking in sometimes as a palate cleanser, it works every time.
So to all the newer members, you’ve come to the right place, it’s a neat little community and I’m sure you’ll find your place here.
The only problem I’ve found is if you express any interest in Yamaha you’ll very quickly be prodded and cajoled, maybe even gas lit, into convincing yourself your life will be better with just one more Yamaha… I joke of course but I have tracked down my very first bass, a BB400 bought second hand in 1995, which is about to get some long overdue care and attention.
100% agree with you…great vibes here. Especially cool and supportive on the “post your covers” thread considering the wildly varying genres that people are into.
This forum is a haven. I think the main thing is that we’re all here to learn and improve on bass. Politics, religion, and all the ‘isms are simply left at the door… there can be some heated discussions regarding bass, and I remember on regarding whether pop music was better x years ago, compared to today, but I think we all quite like learning from each other. And given that, I assume, most of us started on bass via B2B, there doesn’t seem to be any of the ‘I’ve been doing this for years, and back in my day, we did it properly, I tell you, properly!” kind’a nonsense either!
Anyway, the forum is cool, B2B is cool and playing bass is cool!
Gotta agree. It’s so refreshing to participate in a forum where the discussions do not degrade into argument and disrespect. Everyone wants to help and cheers for you to be a better bassist. It’s rare to be on a forum and think, “I could joyfully have a beer with anyone here.”
Thanks for proving my point everyone, loads of examples of goodness all around. The banter had me giggling on the way to the gym.
Excellent BBNE2 recommendation @faydout@RBC64@howard@Al1885 but I’ll just put that in the “aspirational” column for now. My current sights are set a little lower.
Just to point it out though, if you want a Jazz bass and wanna keep it all in the BB family, there’s a BB350 on reverb atm in a really pretty blue thats a little more realistic.
Well, not yet anyway…
That blue BB350 is gorgeous but being down in Aoteoroa does make the shipping a little bit of an issue. My old BB400 is piano black but it’s had it’s share of beatings so fixing and repainting the body is my first priority. Choosing what colour is going to be a nightmare.
I am sort of wondering when they are gonna rev up the next generation of BB’s. They kind of outdid themselves with this one. It’s been going for about 8 years now though so I would not be surprised if there was a new lineup in a couple years.
