Maybe this has been covered, but has anyone else noticed the similarities in the opening bass line between BJ and Living on a Prayer? Sounds like just a few different notes between the two.

I listened to them back to back and can barely pick up any differences other than a slight tempo change

Yes. My brother heard me practicing it a long time ago and his first thought was Living On A Prayer.
I’d say it’s similar, but actually quite different.
Similar in that they are short eighth note riffs repeated for most of the song, but, in context are very different. In Prayer, the bass line really drives the song, while BJ feels like a nice start, but almost disappears in the mix for much of the song. But then how we hear and appreciate music is subjective.
