Looking at a Sire V7 Jazz, help make sure it's legit

I’m looking at a Sire V7, 2nd Generation, Jazz Bass; $450.00. price seems fair.. How can I tell if it is 2nd Gen, owner says he bought it in 2020 says manufactured in 2019. Serial number ?

Picture would do.

The serial number on V1 would start with 1

V2 will start with 2 or 2N

How much does it weigh? My V1 could double as a boat anchor

1st Generation:

The serial number starts with ‘1’.

Features a plastic battery cover with a flip-open design.

2nd Generation:

The serial number starts with ‘2N’.

A single wooden plate covering the two 9V batteries, secured with screws.

If you can lift it with no back pain, it’s a second generation.

If it sounds better it’s the first Gen, :joy:

V7s (v2) with an Alder body weigh 9-10lbs.

In contrast, my Sire V8 made of Swamp Ash weighs 8.5lbs.

10lbs :-1:

Oh well.

You should at least have 5 strings for that kind of weight

Yeah 10 is like two too many

Hmmm, Mine starts with SN193…..

SN = Serial Number…?

What’s the battery cover, and how many batteries?

seems legit V2, I misread the Sn it is “2N193….” 2 -9v batteries, 4 screws.

Will it play passive if the batteries die ?

Does it drain the batteries if left plugged in with switch to “passive”

You can turn the active circuit off when playing, yes. But you must unplug the bass to ensure the batteries don’t drain, turning the active circuit off doesn’t do this.

Thanks, first clear explanation !

as Gen X says, “my bad” I wrote the SN wrong, it is “2N’ so it is 2nd gen - thanks !
